Whether you have gigantic mirths or melancholies, whether you consider yourself , a thief, a reaver, or a slayer, it’s time to tread some jeweled thrones.

Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian is one of the big inspirations for Dungeons & Dragons–the brooding barbarian with a broadsword knows all about crawling through ancient ruins and sunken towers to unearth the treasures that lay within. But what use is money without the hand that spends it?

That is strength. And if you want strength you’ll need the power of a king. Thankfully, a new sourcebook from Modiphius has all that you could possibly want: Conan the King gives barbarian adventures a courtly bent. What does that mean exactly? Well, simply put, it brings intrigue and poison and plots to the world of Conan. The iconic barbarian always represented the struggle against the hypocrisy of “civilized people” who dress up nice and look pretty, but who lie through smiling teeth with murder in their hearts.

It also includes all the guidelines you’ll need to run games where you rule over a nation as its king, or at least put yourself on the road to the throne.

And if you realize that monarchy is about as useful to Conan as a flea to a dog, then it includes powerful new enemies–foes like Xaltotun whose fell sorcery shakes the world, Orastes the fallen priest. It’s got a lot of stuff to dig through, here’s a look at the new book, available now in print (with a pdf immediately upon order).
