Warhammer 40K: Five Things I’d Change In Codex Space Marines
Let’s take a look at some things I wish we could change in Codex Space Marines. It’s only a matter of time…
The other week I looked at some things I wish we could change in the core rules of 9th Edition. Today I want to dig in a little more and take a look at some things I wish they would change in the game’s biggest Codex, Space Marines. As before this is just my personal wishes, I’m not even claiming it would make the game better or anything, just more to my personal liking. Anyway, let’s take a look.
Get Rid Of Locked Transports
Look, we all know it’s super silly that Primaris Marines can only ride in some transports and that First Born Marines likewise can only ride in some of them. There is no real reason why a Primaris Marines can’t get into a Land Raider, the much larger Terminators and Centurions can. It’s also silly that a Classic Tactical Marine can’t get into a Repulsor if a larger Aggressor can. It’s an artificial distinction that doesn’t reflect logic or the fluff. I don’t care about balance, here I just wish they’d get rid of the oddball restriction.
Bring Back All the Bike Characters
Do Marines need more units? No, absolutely not. That still doesn’t stop me from wishing that every Marine character could take a bike as an option. And I mean everyone, not just the ones that used to have rules and now don’t. I won’t truly be happy until we’ve seen a Primaris Lt. on a bike. We know they’ve got lots of bikes, and bikes for both classic and Primaris Marines. Just let people take them. Think of all the cool armies you could make!
Can Suppressors Get Some Love?
Poor Suppressors. These guys are the unloved child, the Perturabo if you will, of the Marine book. Years after their release they still don’t have a stand-alone kit. They’ve got no options, no variation, and no real place in the army. Even Deathwatch forgot about them and won’t let them be in Kill Teams. I dunno what needs to be done but they need some love to make them interesting. Maybe 10th edition will save the day?
Get Rid Of The Hammerfall Bunker
In the realm of things I just don’t like, we have the Hammerfall Bunker. This thing is just…. what even is it?! It’s a drop-bunker, but it doesn’t deepstrike. It’s just a big hunk of plastic that doesn’t add anything interesting to the army. It’s got rules that have you rolling a ton of dice, but aren’t all that likely to add much to a game or army. It feels like there were some cool ideas initially and a neat miniature, maybe a new type of drop pod or something. Maybe a new turret for the Repulsor. But somehow, the rules got mugged along the way to release. It just doesn’t work in either rules, nor theme.
Put a Plastic Thunderhawk In It
Look, this list is things I would do. Not things that are practical or realistic. So yeah, give me a plastic Thundehawk baby. I’ll take two!
Let us know what things you’d change, down in the comments!
