Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons is bringing Gem Dragons back to D&D–and today we have a look at the all-new Emerald Dragon design.

One of the three new D&D books coming out this year is Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, which promises to be the book for all things Dragon. Which is fair because we’ve already had a ton of books that are all about dungeons, it’s only fair that the other half of the game gets some love as well. Dragons are an iconic part of the game, representing might and magic in a single entity.

Throughout the forty-odd year history of Dungeons & Dragons, there have been many incarnations of dragons. The main two are chromatic and metallic dragons–but one of the more beloved third sides were gem dragons, who were most often associated with neutrality, compared to the chromatic and metallic’s love of evil and good respectively.

Their psionic abilities helped them stand apart from other dragons, but what really made them unique was their crystalline scales which appeared in a variety of colored gems. And today we’re going to take a look at the all new Emerald Dragon. But first, here’s a look as they once were:

Emerald Dragons were solitary and distrustful, but curious with a thirst for knowledge, especially where it pertained to history. They were known to set traps to keep intruders out of their lairs, but if that didn’t keep the Home Alone burglars out, their breath weapon was a devastating blast of wind. Emerald Dragons’s crystal scales were shades of green with an effect that made them always look like they were slithering or moving about.

But, thanks to a brand new miniature from WizKids, soon to be up for pre-order, we have a look at the new Emerald Dragon:
