D&D: Stealth Spells to Turn Your Wizard Into a Rogue

No Rogue? No problem, you can still sneak around. As with everything in D&D, even stealth, all it takes is the right spells.

You don’t have to be a Rogue to be a master of Stealth. Or a master of unlocking. But we’ll leave that to Jill Valentine because we’re looking at how in D&D, stealth spells can turn even the clumsiest caster into a roguish hero. And with these five spells, you’ll be stealthing like a Rogue in no time flat.

Invisibility

What is stealth if not the ability to go unseen? This brings us to one kf the best stealth spells in D&D: Invisibility. All it takes is one spell slot and nobody can see you.

You’ll still have to roll if you want to hide to be truly undetectable, but if they can’t see you, you’ve got advantage and can always try to hide from whoever is looking for you.

Pass Without Trace

Of course, if you need help hiding, Pass Without Trace is every party’s friend. This is another fine example of one of D&D’s stealth spells, offering affected targets a +10 to stealth checks. Combine that with the advantage of Invisibility and you’re basically already a ghost.

Silence

With the stealth spells so far, you won’t be seen. Now silence will help make sure you’re not heard.

With this spell, you create a mobile bubble of silence from which no sound can escape. Just make sure you don’t get caught by surprise, because inside the bubble, no sound can get in, either.

Fog Cloud

Sometimes a lo-fi option is best. And it doesn’t get more lo-fi than fog cloud, one of the most effective spells in the game. It’s only a 1st Level spell slot and you can heavily obscure a huge area from sight. Plus it looks a lot more natural to have a fog cloud full of adventurers and knives roll through – nobody ever stops to inspect the fog.

Polymorph

If you know you’re going to be seen, you may as well not look like yourself. Or anything inconspicuous at all. With the power of polymorph, you can be a humble beetle or whatever other insect is in the region you’re in, and slip right beneath the enemy’s notice until it’s too late.
