Warhammer 40K: New Astra Militarum Rules In ‘Rising Tide’ Make Cadians Proud
The Astra Militarum are getting a new batch of rules updates with Rising Tide. Cadia stands!
There’s a saying that goes “a rising tide lifts all boats.” Normally that has to do with the economy but, taking it at face value, it’s an accurate statement. The name the new War Zone Octarius Book 1 is “Rising Tide” and it sure seems like a few of the “boats” that have been lagging behind in 9th are finally getting a lift. We saw how the ‘Nids got some attention yesterday and today we’re getting a closer look at the Astra Militarum rules.
“With new Stratagems, Relics, and Warlord Traits, the Cadians have tooled up in a major way. Let’s take a sneak peek at some of the rules that you can find in their codex supplement.”
Today, GW is kicking things off with a look at a few Stratagems that Astra Militarum are getting access to – specifically Cadians. “The Planet broke before the Cadian’s did” is sort of their new motto and based on these stratagems it seems they’ve taken that to heart.
Whiteshields are basically better-trained Conscripts. For 1-3 CP you can “upgrade” your Conscripts into Whiteshields and for doing so you gain a few benefits. Losing Raw Recruits is actually a GOOD thing in regards to Conscripts.
Getting these Whiteshields into fighting shape doesn’t take a whole lot of extra work. In fact, for another CP you can make the unit quite durable. Cadia Stands! is going to be an ability that may make those AM players out there consider taking Cadians to the tabletop.
Shrugging off attacks that would normally wound on a 2+ is kind of nice. The extra armor save boost might even keep them alive or at least help provide them with some sort of a save vs AP 1, 1 Damage weapons. Imagine having a blob squad of conscripts on an objective with these two stratagems working in concert. That’s going to be a tough one to move.
That’s not the only trick the Cadians have either. Check out this ability and imagine what a gunline of those pesky flashlights might be able to do:
Re-rolling to hit could be pretty darn handy for all those shots! When you’re throwing out buckets of dice with re-rolls some of that damage is bound to get through. But it’s not just new abilities and stratagems the Astra Militarum are getting. They also have some new relics to play with as well.
It packs a punch but perhaps more importantly it keeps your Cadian Infantry in the fight for longer. You’ll be ignoring modifiers to those pesky Combat Attrition tests. And finally, the last preview is of a new Warlord Trait: Gifted Commander.
Place your forcer right where you need them and save some CP on Strategic Reserves while you’re at it!
