Marvel Crisis Protocol: Core Set Character Updates Coming Soon
Marvel Crisis Protocol has updates coming for a handful of the characters from the Core Set – come see what’s new!
M:CP has been rocking out some fantastic new miniatures at a consistent pace. Along with that we’ve seen the game growing – from both a player base and rules standpoint. It’s easy for the newer characters to seem new and shiny or even more powerful than the more veteran characters who were around for day 1. In some cases, that actually turned out to be true. Atomic Mass Games has been localizing the game for different languages and as part of that effort they have gone back and checked out some of the older character’s rules that could use an update.
“Changing the stat cards across the game presented our development team with an opportunity to go back and take a second look with more seasoned eyes at many of the characters originally designed before the public even knew Marvel: Crisis Protocol existed. While we have taken every effort to maintain a fair and consistent balance since those initial characters, as our skill and understanding of the game grew with more and more time spent developing, it was inevitable that early efforts be just a bit shy of where they’d be if we were to design them today. Given that so many of those early characters are true icons in the Marvel Universe, the move to localization and the eventual reprinting of all the current characters into the new gave us a chance to dive back in and make adjustments so that these beloved characters could continue to be valuable and fun options for both old and new.”
So which Characters were getting a refresh? So far AMG has shown off 4 of the characters and they are look much more impressive than before.
Now, if you’re new to the game it’s going to be hard to explain what all changed. The good news is Atomic Mass Games has a complete breakdown of the changes and the reasoning behind them all. So go check that out if you’re curious. For vets, you might notice those changes and it’s easy to agree that all of these characters are going to come out stronger for them.
It’s great to see AMG go back and rework existing characters that just about every player has in their collection. They might have been gathering dust instead of getting play time, but now, you’ve got some really great reasons to bust them out and see how they perform on the tabletop!
