MTG: Synthwave Secret Lair Lands Are A Vaporwave Paradise
Time to put on a playlist with all the words s p a c e d o u t, because a new Synthwave Secret Lair has arrived.
Digital sunsets, long sprawling gridscapes–these images conjure up the future of the past. S y n t h w a v e isn’t just an aesthetic. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a mood, a vibe, a playlist you left open in one of the tabs you keep clicking over to randomly. Every time you check, that car and/or spaceship is still traveling down that digital road while Orax plays in the background.
Now s y n t h w a v e is coming to Magic: the Gathering via a new Secret Lair drop. You’ll have to get your own playlist of bands you’ve never heard of to play every time you slam one of these friends down on the table. But. Just look at them. You can hear the warm hum on the synth. The reverberating pulse of the base. Listen to that saw wave.
Created by artist Ben Schnuck (who also created the header image), these new Basic Lands are everything I want to see out of a Land. They’re a mood, an aesthetic, and they’re dropping in July.
