Star Wars: ‘The Princess and the Scoundrel’ Takes Han & Leia’s Romance to Disney’s $$$$ Hotel
The Princess and the Scoundrel brings Princess Leia and Han Solo to Disney World for their honeymoon… Sort of.
A new Star Wars book, The Princess and the Scoundrel will bring back another subject lost to canon by Legends: the wedding of Leia and Han. Written by Beth Revis, the book will begin almost exactly as Return of the Jedi leaves off. While the Rebels and Ewoks celebrate the destruction of the second Death Star, Han proposes to Leia. The story will progress from there.
“I took pages and pages of notes on their dialogue, their mannerisms, the subtle ways they interacted. Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are simply brilliant actors, and they gave me a lot to work with! I wanted this to be a story where the past was still present, but they were moving forward into new territory. It’s an emotional journey — the aftermath of war always is, but so is the new foundling steps of love,” Revis said in an interview with StarWars.com.
After the wedding, the newlyweds will be off on their honeymoon. Given the closeness to the Battle of Endor, many Imperials will be unwilling to concede the war and power. And of course the lovebirds will encounter some of these former/not former Imperials on none other than the Halcyon Starcruiser.
That’s right, the very same Halcyon Starcruiser as the Disney World Galactic Starcruiser Hotel. Does this mean you’ll be able to low-key LARP as Han or Leia down the halls of the Halcyon while reenacting your favorite book scenes? If that’s your thing, absolutely.
The real-life Halcyon Starcruiser is a hotel in Disney World where guest have a “revolutionary new 2-night experience where you are the hero.” Designed to be a fully immersive experience, guests have their own Star Wars adventures as well as is the only place guests will be able to see and get their hands on the “real” lightsabers for the foreseeable future.
The Princess and the Scoundrel is also not the first time that Han and Leia’s wedding has been explored. Now relegated to “Legends” status, 1994’s The Courtship of Princess Leia by Dave Wolverton also featured their romance.
Overall we’re not sure how to feel about characters as prominent as Han and Leia visiting the Halcyon. It’s a fun connection to main-stream source material. But I can’t help but feel like it makes the galaxy a little smaller and perhaps pandering. But Revis’ genuine love for the character makes me hopeful that The Princess and the Scoundrel will be a fun read.
“Leia has been my hero for as long as I remember — I grew my hair long to be like her, and I even had a brother named Luke! She was my princess when I was a child, and she became my general when I became an adult. I can only hope that I’ve done her justice in this story.”
