WizKids’ new Lolth and Drider minis go together like peanut butter and chocolate. If both peanut butter and chocolate are terrifying.

What makes Drow and Spiders such a fitting combination? Perhaps it’s that these elves, living in subterranean environs, evoke images of spiders nestling in forgotten places. Perhaps it’s because their stark white hair is reminiscent of spider webs.

Or perhaps it’s because some of them follow a god-queen that manifests as a terrifying hybrid of monstrous spider and beautiful drow woman. Lolth is the Queen of the Demonweb Pits, and Mistress of Spiders. She’s also the patron goddess of the Udadrow, one of three different enclaves of drow known in the Forgotten Realms.

Lolth rewards her followers with power, and punishes those who displeasure her. Sometimes often at the same stroke, as you’ll see with Drider’s.

WizKids has a new set, based on Magic: the Gathering’s Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, and two of the showstopper pieces are Lolth and a Drider, available for pre-order now. Check ’em out.

WizKids’ Lolth the Spider Queen – $73.49

Look at this representation of Lolth. Here she is with eight arms AND eight legs. Which is just enough to be terrifying no matter which part of her form you’re looking at.

The Queen of Spiders stands about five-inches tall, letting her tower over any who stand against her.

WizKids’ Drider (Frameworks) – $26.24

This Drider miniature is incredible. It’s one of the new Frameworks series, which means that it’s customizable. This miniature doesn’t come pre-assembled. Rather it comes unassembled and unprimed, with a plethora of parts for a variety of builds, not unlike a box of Warhammer miniatures.

As you can see, this Drider comes with at least two poses. One armed with a bow, the other with magic spell and sword.

Funnily enough though, Drow view Driders with derision. They are created when a Drow fails Lolth in some way, and transformed into the horrifying spider monsters. And though they’re powerful, the Driders are often pawns in the schemes of more powerful Drow.

Both of these miniatures should ship in Q2 of 2022.
