Star Wars: The Five Most Foolish Jedi
These Jedi aren’t quite as wise as you’d think.
Jedi are supposed to be paragons of wisdom. It’s part of their lore and mystique. In actuality, we often find that they can be pretty foolish. These are some of the worst offenders.
5. Coleman Trebor
Coleman Trebor was a Jedi master at the start of the Clone Wars. Indeed, he wasn’t just a Jedi Master, but a member of the council. As such, he was one of the most powerful Jedi around and a veteran of many conflicts. At the beginning of the Clone Wars he took part in the Battle of Geonosis. During the fight he attempted to confront Count D00ku and was within a swing of preventing the wars.
But at this point, Jango Fett showed up. It took Jango Fett about 3 seconds to kill the Jedi Master. Fett doesn’t even do anything special – he just fires a blaster from a standing position. He shoots roughly 4 shots and Trebor, who isn’t even surprised by this, blocks the first one. And apparently just the first one. He then promptly dies. Stopping a handful of shots from a still enemy is like Jedi skill #1. You’ve got to be pretty foolish to be taken down like such a punk.
4. Zym
Zym was the head of the Jedi Order during part of the Great Galactic War. He was a warrior and war veteran. He was also a really stupid Jedi and made a lot of mistakes. For instance he signed a peace treaty with the Sith while they were secretly sacking Coruscant. Far from being wise, he is easily fooled by the Sith.
Sometime after this he was on a mission to discover some intelligence about the attacks. Why did the Grand Master of the Jedi Order need to do this in person and with no back-up or assistance? That’s unclear. During his mission he ran into a bounty hunter who is trying to give him the information he needs. But then Zym tries to arrest the Bounty Hunter for murder (which is kind of fair). In the fight that follows, the Bounty Hunter kills Zym and flees. That’s right the Grand Master of the Jedi is killed by some random bounty hunter – and one that he had gotten the drop on. All this after foolishly letting the Sith play him and then going alone on this mission. Really the Jedi were better off without him.
3. Mace Windu
Windu is one of the heads of the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. He’s a fan favorite and often shown as one of the main Jedi heroes of the age. However more than almost anyone else’s, his foolishness helps bring down the Republic. A warrior at heart, he helps kick start the Clone Wars with the attack on Geonosis and is one of the leading voices pushing the Jedi to take up the fight. Moreover he constantly lets a personal dislike of Anakin Skywalker get the better of him. Rather than really trying to help the troubled young Knight, he constantly pushes him away. These action help lead to Anakin’s fall.
Lastly, when he finds out that Palpatine is the secret Sith lord, he leads a small strike force in person to take him down. Foolishly he does this without alerting the other Jedi to the crisis. Had Mace warned the Jedi before going after the Chancellor, Order 66 might have been averted.
2. Count Dooku
Dooku likes to call the other Jedi fools, without noticing that he is one himself. After leaving the Jedi Order for actually good reasons, he is seduced by the Dark Side. He foolishly believes that he can make the Republic a better place. He also thinks that he is Palpatine’s true apprentice and heir, so he willingly does his bidding. In the moments before his death, you can see as he finally realizes what a true fool he’s been the whole time. Completely played by a far greater Sith Lord.
1. Luke Skywalker
To many, Luke is the greatest Jedi of all time. Yet he also might be the most foolish. I’m not ever talking about that time he foolishly ran off from his training to fight Vader and got his ass handed (well one-handed) to him. Arguably he wasn’t even a Jedi at the time.
No its his actions after Return of The Jedi that I’m talking about. Luke attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. But foolishly he falls into all the same old traps as the old Order. We can see from his treatment of Grogu that rather than learning from his redeeming of Anakin, that he has fallen into a foolish old way of thinking. Later he will foolishly considering killing his own Nephew. After the fall of his new Order, rather than attempting to make things right, and potentially stopping the Rise of the First Order and the death of billions, Luke decides to go into hiding, for no good reason. Is there a bigger fool out there?
