The new Krondspine Incarnate does some funky stuff on the tabletop. It’s a brand new style of unit in the game of Age of Sigmar!

Games Workshop revealed the rules for the Krondspine and it’s looking like a hybrid between a bound endless spell and a monster. Things are about to get even weirder in the Mortal Realms!

“These raw Ghurish vibe-monsters aren’t just grumpy, they’re positively raging, a tempest of fangs and claws with a statline to bellow about.”

Krondspine Incarnate Rules Reveal

Alright, alright, alright! First up we get a look at it’s attack profiles. It’s packing two different options and they are both pretty nasty. You also get to add the Incarnate’s level to the attacks — more on that below. It’s packing lots of rend in there so if you’re an army that struggles with punching through armor this might be a good option to look at.

So about those Incarnate levels…how do they work?

“Incarnates don’t even have a Wounds characteristic – it’s kind of tricky to injure a howling mass of realm-energy tethered to an assortment of bones and realmstone. Instead, their power is marked by a series of states running from Empowered to Abolished.”

The Krondspine can also increase its level by slaying Monsters or devouring endless spells! Yep — it EATS Endless Spells. Thanks to its new Monstrous Rampage:

So how do you deal with them if they don’t have wounds? It involves a special battleshock check at the end of the round. It’s got to fail that check to drop down a level. You can improve those odds of failure by doing damage to the Incarnate.

Alternatively, you can also make it cause problems for the player that brought it. To do that, you need to kill the Hero that bound the entity in the first place.

“If the HERO the incarnate is bonded to dies, it reverts to its wild form. In this state, it is yet more savage, and in its mindless aggression, it treats all forces, be they friend or foe – or endless spell! – as targets to sate its bloodlust.”

Depending on the Hero this might be easier said than done! Besides it’s terrifying claws and endless spell devouring abilities, there’s even more that the Incarnate brings to the tabletop. It’s Domination range is going to impact units in other ways. It’s also going to mess with magic casting within those ranges, too. Let’s just say getting stuck in with a wizard is going to be a bad time.

The Krondspine is sure to make a splash in the Age of Sigmar — and it’s probably the first of many to come.
