Take a Look Inside the ‘Blade Runner’ RPG in a New Sneak Peek
Want a sneak peek of the Blade Runner RPG? Look no further at the upcoming sci-fi RPG, Kickstarting next week!
The Blade Runner RPG is a hotly anticipated look at a cool neon-noir near-future. That’s a lotta hyphenated words for a setting. But how else would you describe the world of Blade Runner? With its omnipresent advertising, flying cars, replicants, and off-world interests, it could be strictly sci-fi. But Blade Runner has always existed in the realm of the personal.
Part of the magic of the first movie is that it builds to an intimate confrontation atop a rooftop in rain. And Edward James Olmos improvising the line, “it’s too bad she won’t live, but then again, who does?”
Point is. Blade Runner is a perfect setting for an RPG. With the worldbuilding we’ve seen so far, there are so many more corners to fill in. And Free League plans to tackle this world in their RPG, starting with a Kickstarter coming next week. Take a sneak peek at the world of the Blade Runner RPG.
Blade Runner RPG Sneak Peek
Free League showed off five different spreads from the book. Each one just as moody and melancholy as the last. You can hear Vangelis’ score accompanying these pictures.
But it’s not just a look at some of the worldbuilding going on in the books. Though that does seem to be front and center in most of these. We get to learn about what’s happened in LA since the movie. A whole lot of rain. But you get a sense of the tension present in the setting. And speaking of tension, we get a look at some of the rules for that:
Stress is a huge factor in the game. And how you relieve it also helps define your character. In the list of consequences or Critical Stress Effects, you get to see how the game’s mechanics help shape the mood.
And in a game like this, Mood is everything.
The Kickstarter goes live on May 3rd at 6 am US Pacific Time (9 am US Eastern, 3 pm Central European). All backers who pledge within the first 24 hours will receive a bonus item soon to be revealed.
