WotC announced that the upcoming Warhammer 40K Magic crossover set has been delayed. The global supply chain remains as fragile as ever.

Life is full of grim reminders of just how fragile everything is. Rock solid foundations prove to be little more than delicately balanced chairs stacked against and on top of each other in such a way that, as long as no one presses on them from one side, are perfectly fine. Only, life… uhh, finds a way.

It was true about those dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. And it’s just as true about the global supply chain. WotC announced yesterday that it had “updated the release timing” for their upcoming Warhammer 40K Commander Decks.

Magic’s Warhammer 40K Set Delayed

The new date for the next Universes Beyond crossover outing was scheduled for August 12, 2022. It would bring the grim darkness of the distant future barrelling headlong into Magic’s myriad multiverse with a set of Commander decks. But it seems that shipping problems and production delays will push the date back to October. And it’s not just Warhammer 40K being affected. The other planned Games Workshop crossover sets have been hit as well, per WotC’s announcement:

Due to ongoing global supply chain challenges and delays in production, the global release of Warhammer 40,000 Commander decks is now October 7, 2022. This release date change includes both the regular and Collector’s Edition Warhammer 40,000 Commander decks.

The Secret Lair x Warhammer 40,000: Orks, Secret Lair x Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and Secret Lair x Blood Bowl drops will also be impacted. We will follow up in the coming weeks with additional details on updated timing.

So we’ll have to wait to play with cards like Abaddon the Despoiler:

Or Blood for the Blood God:

But that just means more to look forward to. With Age of Sigmar and Blood Bowl in the works, there’s proof that good things come to those who wait.
