Let’s Play D&D With ‘Lil Leia Organa
This week the party is getting into pint sized trouble with a girl and her droid; we’re playing D&D with Lil’ Leia and Lola.
Little Leia may have been the biggest and most welcome surprise of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Vivien Lyra Blair captured the all of the sweet, fun, confident, and even mean parts of Princess Leia‘s voice perfectly and gave us a view of the kid who who’d grow up to be the Galaxy’s general. Princess Leia (and Lola)
It can be a little hard to nail down exactly what classes the various Star Wars characters would fall into. Except for Han, he’s the most rogue to ever rogue. But most of the rest of the cast has so many conflicting skills that they feel like a constant evolution.
Without any training in the force or any of her education in diplomacy and rebellion organizing, I decided to have Leia follow in her bio dad’s footsteps a little bit and made her an artificer. The importance that Lola has to her and the ease with which she fixes minor issues her droid has makes me think of the connection between an artificer and their steel defender. Only in this case Lola is a tiny construct instead of a medium one, but we’ll get to that later. Sure, there isn’t a lot of proof that Leia built Lola at all. But I refuse to believe that the daughter of Anakin Skywalker – who built an entire 3PO in a dessert out of a box of scraps- couldn’t also build her own droid with the access to the galaxy’s best education.
I made her highest stat her wisdom followed by charisma because of how her force powers seem to be manifesting. Is she very good at reading people and picking out their insecurities? Does royalty make her good at being a little mean and still very likable? Maybe. Or maybe that’s the force poking through in subtle ways.
Unlike any other sheets I’ve made, Leia doesn’t have any weapons of her own. She’s ten years old. Instead she has a few spells that also work like the force to boost, buff, and protect herself and her teammates. Here the struggle was to find the middle ground between likely-force magic that would subtly assist your team while not being an obvious force power. For example, Mage Hand would look like force move and might tip off an inquisitor or two. Plus Leia doesn’t have that ability yet and won’t for quite a few years.
And of course Lola is her little tiny steel defender. Generally these are bigger, making their strength stat make a little more sense. But Lola is a pretty hearty little droid.
Will Lil Leia stay an Artificer forever? Probably not. She’ll likely learn to lean into her charisma and skill for speeches and leadership to be some sort of bard But let’s be honest, Princess Leia can do anything she wants.
