Goatboy here and today I want to look at the top 5 most point efficient purchases in 40k. Here’s how to get the most tabletop impact for you hard earned cash!

I’m one to try to get the most out of my paycheck. Even when I”m putting together a list for my next 40K army. These are some boxes you can buy that will give you the most points or bang for your buck, or pound, or euro, or whatever.  Whether it is just a single purchase for an expensive unit or something that can create 2+ units its always interesting to see what might be the best deal to fill out an army or two.  I will just try to look at purchasing a single box set and not some kind of combo box or combat patrol.  Most of the time those are the best deals you can get but not everyone wants to throw down 140 bucks to get some plastic minis.

Adepta Sororitas – Paragon Warsuits – $70 US

This unit costs 210 points and has everything you need for one single unit in a box.  A lot of the time I would love to see GW do this more with elite options. A single purchase gets you everything you need to add in a small murder unit to your army.  This is probably the best example of the AOS concept of creating armies via single box purchases beyond some big combo boxed options.

Adeptus Custodes – Custodian Guardian Squad – $60 US

Here you have the poster child for a boxed set that can create 3 separate units.  You have the basic 3 man troop squad for Custodes sitting at 150 points.  Then you have an HQ Character slot if you want at a Shield captain at 105 points.  Then on top of that you could make a Vexilla at 105 points as well.  This single box gets you 360 points of action for your Custodes army which is a heck of a deal when compared to other armies choices.  You might need to do a little work to get it all looking right but that is the whole fun of this game – building and converting things.

Tyranids – Carnifex Brood – $95 US

Here you get 2 Carnifex bodies that run about 130 points each – for a total of 260 points for a boxed set.  Sure you could use one more to really create the 3 monster units – but 2 isn’t too bad to just quickly beef up your force with a wrecking ball of damage.  You have 3 different options too with Screamer Killers, Thornbacks, and just regular Carnifex broods if you want.  Heck you could also make one into Old One Eye as well giving you even more options if you would like.

Ork Squighog Boyz – $60 US

Another new combo box that gets you a simple 3 man unit with the addition of a character all in the same boxed set.  It isn’t the highest point costing unit but it does give you some interesting stuff.  You mix 2 boxes together and you got a max sized Squighog boyz and then two Nobs on Smasha Squigs that all fit together.  The box is 75 points for the Boyz and 65 points for the Nob bringing the total to 140 points of angry waves of flesh.

Thousand Sons Exalted Champions – $60 US

Here you have a box that gives you 3 HQ choices you can add to your Thousand Sons army.  Each sits at a bit over a 100 points and the box set gives you options to have some ride on discs, hang out on foot, or just look like they are being ripped apart by Vecna.  Really this was always a weird boxed set as we thought would GW give us some kind of interesting little caster unit?  Some kind of floating cabal of magical might that would float around the battlefield being a mixture of close combat and fancy magic?  Still it is one of the cooler boxed sets to come out from GW in awhile and something I would love to see more of.

Bonus Big Kits

If you went with the most point efficient models per box you would most likely point to the big plastic monsters like the Stompa, Morty, and Lord of Skulls. Those take a lot more effort to move into a list and while a nice big purchase they do break the bank a little when you have to justify all that plastic.  What other units you think make the most sense points versus dollar wise?  Anything else you feel matches up more?  I am sure if you go into the some of the Christmas boxes you can find even more efficient deals but those break downs are for another time – closer to the holidays.
