‘Nope’ – Critics’ Early Reactions to Jordan Peele’s ‘Divisive’ Movie
Social media reactions to advanced screenings of Nope promise an unforgettable cinematic experience that sounds different than the trailer.
Jordan Peele’s newest horror classic is out in theaters this weekend and first impressions from reviewers are all over Twitter.
Unforgettable and Unpredictable
Three things appear to be consistent through the reviews. First, Jordan Peele has once again outdone himself. Second, the film is full of some pretty valuable commentary. And lastly, this movie isn’t going to be what you expect – and that’s gonna make some viewers angry.
#NopeMovie is a hard, resounding “yep” for me. Jordan Peele’s most mature and layered work that tackles our natural obsession with spectacle and its capture. 100% not what the trailer advertises and sure to piss people off. Gorgeous, meta, and scary. It rips. pic.twitter.com/gdh1btxfJX

First takes also speak to a movie that is really well balanced and atmospheric (which makes sense for Peele).
#NopeMovie is one of the best films of the year. Jordan Peele’s singular vision and direction is so strong with the entire cast shining especially Keke Palmer who is perfect. Funny and light when it needs to be yet brutal and terrifying throughout. Fascinating film pic.twitter.com/xbTVt52PId

Several people mention Kiki Palmer’s performance in particular.
NOPE is Jordan Peele’s Jaws. A chopped, screwed, and depraved homage to the summer blockbuster. There are some stunning anxiety-inducing, white-knuckled suspense pieces that had my heart racing. It will be polarizing as said, but it got me. Keke Palmer is easily MVP. #NopeMovie pic.twitter.com/vLqcQeMkaV

A couple of reviews have casually mentioned Jaws in their first takes, which is interesting since it takes place in such a rustic setting.
Jordan Peele’s Nope is his most confident, unfettered, and potentially most divisive vision yet. Swapping the exclamation marks of horror for the question marks of sci-fi, this is less about scares. With hints of Close Encounters, Jaws, and more, #NopeMovie is a real puzzlebox. pic.twitter.com/Ny3EVaLTqW

And of course, there were plenty of positive comments about the cinematography. Many of the reviewers are using their platform to encourage viewers to see the film on the IMAX screen.
So #NopeMovie is absolutely phenomenal in so many ways. Perfectly blends together a sci-fi spectacle w/a story that is also something of a Hollywood reckoning & it blew my expectations away. Gorgeously shot, the sound mix is thunderous & the cast all shines. Love love loved it. pic.twitter.com/qdcZIvsX5T

Nope Cast & Crew
Oscar-winner Jordan Peele is the screenwriter and director. Nope reunites him with Daniel Kaluuya; plus Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, and Michael Wincott.
Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with “Get Out” and then “Us.” Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope. Residents in a lonely gulch of inland California bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.
Nope arrives in theaters on July 22nd.
