‘Avatar’ (Blue Cat People, Not Airbender) is Coming Back to Theaters
There was a tiny freakout when it vanished Disney+. Now we know why it was pulled – Avatar‘s blue cat people are coming to theaters in 4K.
When Avatar came out in 2009, it was a shock to the system. The story by director James Cameron is meh (Ferngully meets Dances With Wolves) but it doesn’t matter, the tech is the real star. It was totally amazing to watch and the mocap set a new benchmark. Avatar took home Oscars for Best Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects for good reasons.
Fans have an opportunity to see the Na’vi, Avatar‘s blue cat people, on the big screen for the first time in over a decade. This time in “stunning 4K High Dynamic Range” rather than the 3D IMAX it was originally offered in. It’ll be available for two weeks starting on Friday September 23rd. They even made a new trailer for it.

Avatar: The Way Of Water
Why re-release now? The first sequel is coming. Avatar: The Way Of Water continues the story of the Na’vi. And it looks even more beautiful than the original.
James Cameron is back in the director’s chair. Original cast members include Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. Also returning are Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver. They will be joined by new additions Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, and Vin Diesel. I’m sure they’ll be glad for all of the upgrades made in mocap tech since 2009.
“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way Of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
Avatar: The Way Of Water hits theaters on December 16th.
