Fast X is wrapping up Dominic Torreto’s story that started with a little movie about fast cars and grew to a multi-billion dollar film franchise.

The franchise kicked off twenty years ago and is still going strong with fans and at the box office, but it’s time for Dominic Torreto’s adventures with motors to end. Fast X is (kind of) the last of the series. Lead actor Vin Diesel has stated that there’s too much ground to cover both with the story and with physical locations. The story will be split into two parts/movies, as you do these days. The two halves are likely being filmed back to back. They started filming the first one this April.

Fast X Plot/Story

There aren’t a lot of plot details at this point, but the movie picks up after the events of F9 (on HBOMax is you haven’t). It will take the crew all over the globe, they did a bunch of filming in Rome. Be ready for an amped up number of stunts, as well as exotic cars and motorcycles. This wouldn’t be an FF movie if it didn’t one up the last one.

Some of the theories running around right now is that it’ll all end with the new generation of speedsters – Dom and Brian’s kids. A passing of the torch. With Han showing back up in F9 (how many times has he not died now?) the Shaw vs Torreto beef may come up again. Cipher is also still out there. Plus the new villian.

With this being the last of the Dom movies there are a lot of possibilities. So many characters they could bring back, favorite cars, familiar places. When you have twenty years and nine movies worth of material to wrap up the ending better be grand.

Fast X Cast & Crew

Long time FF director Justin Lin has left the franchise due to disagreements with Universal and Vin Diesel. Louis Letterier has taken his place for Fast X. He’s best known for the first two Transporter movies, The Incredible Hulk, the Clash of the Titans remake, and Now You See Me.

The returning cast comes from across the nine movies. Including the original cast Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster. Plus Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, and Cardi B.

The legendary, EGOT-winning Rita Moreno is making her first appearance as Grandma Toretto. She’s an important figure in the family’s lives – and we all know family is what this franchise is about. She’s not the only new actor on the list. Brie Larson, Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), and Alan Ritchson (Reacher) are also joining the fun.

The unnamed villain of Fast X is being played by Jason Momoa in the first baddie role he’s had in a while. Not a bunch is known about the character, but the actor did tell Variety that he’s had a lot of fun with it.

“Time of my life. I get to be the bad guy finally. I’ve been the good guy for a while. He’s very sadistic and androgynous and he’s a bit of a peacock… He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues.”

Sounds like a perfect addition to me. I hope he gets a scrunchie to match every outfit – including this rad snakeskin jacket.

Fast X speeds into theaters May 19, 2023.
