‘Space Quest’ Sequel ‘SpaceVenture’ Gets Release Date After a Decade on Kickstarter
SpaceVenture has been sitting in limbo on Kickstarter for 10 years now, but is a release date finally coming over the event horizon?
Space Quest is a point-and-click adventure game that was one of the first mainstream series to come out of Sierra Games back in the 90s. The duo behind the series, Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy, also called Two Guys From Andromeda, decided to start making their own game.
Back in April 2012, the duo uploaded a video. In that video, they announce they are working on a new game and launched their Kickstarter campaign for it. The game was given the legally distinct title of SpaceVenture. According to the FAQ on their Kickstarter, they did talk to the VP at Activision to try and secure the Space Quest license, but “It wasn’t ruled out that there may be something in the future, but for now, they aren’t quite ready to move forward with anything on that”
Over the next decade, the duo did post semi-regular updates.
The End Is Nigh!
But very recently, the Kickstarter was given an end date! Currently, SpaceVenture is currently set to release on September 16th. It will release on Steam for $15. Then, it also as a standalone executable (old habits die hard) on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
SpaceVenture Voice Acting
SpaceVenture boasts some very good voice acting with well-named talent. Including Gary Owens, the original narrator. Rob Paulson has done a lot of work with Warner Bros. Robert Clotworthy, who played Raynor in StarCraft. Ellen McLain famously played GLaDOS. And John Patrick Lowrie who plays Sniper in Team Fortress 2.
As a big fan of the Space Quest series in general, I’m very excited that SpaceVenture is finally seeing the light of day. Well, I’ve been wanting more point-and-click games, and seems like I got my wish.
