Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: Chaos Space Marine Master of Possession
Chaos Marines got a nice new codex and one of the best glow-up units is the Master of Possession. If you aren’t playing World Eaters your CSM army should have one of these – he is just that good.
Ahh, the Master of Possession – the amp’d up Daemonkin Sorcerer of doom. The reason this guy is good is that Malefic Psychic powers are pretty dang amazing. Plus they are not locked into being good just for Daemonkin. In fact, they are good for everything in the book. This is the Sorcerer supreme in the codex and when you mix a Mark of Chaos on them you even get your Marks Psychic power which is just friggin amazing. Throw in a sweet relic and you get to throw 3 powers out a turn – nothing to sneeze at.
Master of Possession Basics
The Master of Possession is a Daemonkin psychic caster. He has a 5+ inv save due to being a Daemon, adds an extra 1 mortal wound to enemies that peril within 12″, and can stab a buddy to help his spells get better. On top of that, he has a decent staff to punch you with 5 attacks to bring to the table. He can also be Marked – which a lot of the other Daemonkin stuff can’t take. This allows him to be a pain in the butt by striking first or ignore the first hit of damage he takes. Oh, on top of that he has Warp Locus which could be very interesting with some kind of Daemon bomb builds.
Powerful Buffs
This model buffs your army, heals your army, can throw a marked spell, and then make your Daemonkin better. The only thing he doesn’t really have is a very powerful harm spell versus the enemy. But his buffs more than makeup for it. The only other downside is he can’t wear Terminator armor. Which means some weird relic benefits he could give to a unit are not there. Still, he is amazing and one of the best HQ choices in the Chaos Space Marine book. If you plan on casting psychic spells you will be taking one of these in your Chaos Space Marine army.

Master of Possession
This is exactly the type of unit armies need to let them be powerful and unique. The model itself isn’t winning the game. But it seriously amps the rest of your army to get the job done. This lets your units be Chaotic monsters of death and ensure your army works well. His sacrificial ability to pump up his casting ability is pretty powerful too. Hou can easily get a +2 or +3 if you set up a friendly Venomcrawler nearby.
