Crossover Event: That Actor is So Great… What’s Their Name Again?
The best weird movies make you go “WTF!?” – followed by making others watch them, so they can experience the freaky and the strange. You should watch these…
You know who is a great actor? It’s…uh… you know. He was in that one movie with that other woman. She’s the one who is in everything. You know you I mean. Well, either way, they are both great. Just like the rest of our list of best actors we can’t remember the name of. Join Danni, Martin, and Chris as they talk about their favorite character actors.
There are many brilliant character actors working on the small and large screen these days – too many to list. These are some that came to mind while watching this week’s episode.
Pete Postlethwaite
Postlethwaite started his career as a drama teacher and decided to follow his passion. After picking up credits on stage (he was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company), he branched out onto the screen in the 1970s, by the early 1990s his face was very recognizable even though his name was not. Sadly we lost him in 2011.
Suggested watchlist:
- In the Name of the Father
- The Usual Suspects
- Romeo + Juliet
Stephen McKinley Henderson
He also spends a lot of his time on stage, but you’ve seen him on both the big and small screen. He’s had regular parts on Law & Order starting in 1995, and I’m sure you’ll recognize him as Thufir Hawat in Dune. Henderson fits in on futurisitc worlds just as well as our own.
Suggested watchlist:
- Devs
- Lady Bird
- Fences
Francis Conroy
After growing up in the theater Conroy attended the Juilliard School. Similar to other character actors, she’s got a lot of stage time under her belt on Broadway and off. She’s been an American Horror Story regular, and payed maternal figures across the spectrum. She can be charming, loving, and deadly.
Suggested watchlist:
- Six Feet Under
- Joker
- Broken Flowers
Brendan Gleeson
His stage career began with starring in a production of Waiting for Godot in high school. Since then the versatile actor played everything from Irish revolutionary Michael Collins to Alastor ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody in the Harry Potter movies. Gleeson can have a tough demenour, but he’s just as adept at playing supportive father types.
Suggested watchlist:
- Braveheart
- The Guard
- The Secret of Kells
Greta Lee
She’s been all over streaming and tv the last few years. Her debut was on… Law & Order SVU. The television show that just keeps on giving. Lee has the talent to fit in just about anywhere – but her wit makes her ideal for comedy and weird situations.
Suggested watchlist:
- Russian Doll
- Twilight Zone – “You Might Also Like”
- What We Do in the Shadows – “Collaboration“
- The Morning Show
