SYFY’s ‘The Ark’ – Everything Goes Horrifically Wrong for This Crew
One of the producers behind Independence Day has a new catastrophic space story to tell in SYFY’s The Ark.
A colonial ship dubbed Ark One suffers catastrophic losses and massive destruction after a collision with an unknown force. They lose life-sustaining supplies and important leadership with more than a year left on their journey. The remaining crew has to defy the odds to stay the course and survive.
A lot of things can go wrong in the outer reaches of space.
You can see where the show’s creators have looked for influences. A planetary colonizing mission that young people run after everything falls apart isn’t the most novel premise. The Ark will have to offer something fresh. The thriller looks like it’s filled with tense moments that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, and characters that they’ll root for (and actively dislike). I’m curious to see where this goes.

SYFY’s The Ark Details
Dean Devlin (Independence Day, Stargate) and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1) are showrunners/creators. Devlin is most well known for his work with director Roland Emmerich, and his work on Leverage. The cast includes Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read, and Ryan Adams.
“The Ark” takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies, and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.
The Ark premieres on February 1 on SYFY and will be streamed the next day on Peacock.
