Netflix’s ‘Viking Wolf’ is a Classic Werewolf Tale with a Nordic Twist
Viking Wolf is Norway’s first werewolf film – a classic take on the monster tale with ties to old Nordic legend comes to Netflix this Friday.
It’s a simple enough story that starts with a new girl in a new town who witnesses a grizzly murder. Soon she’s stalked by strange cravings, and a small town is alight with death and mayhem. Netflix’s newest film Viking Wolf looks about as straightforward as its name, but there’s a lot to be said for a masterful production. And it’s possible that’s what viewers will get.
Viking Wolf Details
Stig Svendsen directs the film based on a script by himself and Espen Aukan. Viking Wolf stars Liv Mjönes (Midsommar), Elli Rhiannon Müller Osborne, Arthur Hakalahti, Sjur Vatne Brean, and Vidar Magnussen. The film has already been released theatrically in Norway and has been well-received by audiences. The trailer shows a good amount of blood, and likely a few jump scares, but it also appears to be emotionally character driven and well-performed.

Netflix’s Norwegian Genre Library Grows
Netflix has invested in a series of genre films from Norway, and productions are starting to hit the streaming service. Viking Wolf may remind some viewers of another creature feature that pleased fans and critics with its well-executed by-the-numbers story. Troll, which came out in December, was lauded for its production, story, and performances. And both films also tell these classic tales with a Scandinavian twist. Troll writer Espen Aukan also penned Viking Wolf.
Viking Wolf arrives on Netflix on February 3rd (this Friday).
