MTG: Lord Of The Rings Set Brings Middle-Earth To Magic
With a first look coming March 14th, Magic’s next Universes Beyond set will feature the Lord of the Rings. And the rest of Middle-earth.
It’s a dangerous business going out your door. Especially if you’re going to your FLGS to play Magic: the Gathering with a bunch of Lord of the Rings themed cards. And yet, that’s exactly what you’ll soon be able to do.
In fact you’ll be able to go there and back again with the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. The next Universes Beyond expansion, as you might guess from the name combines the world of Middle-earth, and specifically the story of the Lord of the Rings with Magic: the Gathering.
Magic Meets LOTR
No cards have been spoiled as of yet for the set. Though we do have an idea of what might be in the cards. According to the unveiling, the new set will follow the Fellowship of the ring on their adventures, with all the heroism, courage, and of course, second breakfasts. And if Second Breakfast is somehow not a card, there will be rioting.
The new set will be modern legal, and will comprise Draft, Set, Collector, and Jumpstart Boosters, as well as Commander decks, a Starter Kit, a Bundle and Gift Bundle, “Scene Boxes”, and Secret Lair drops. Which is absolutely wild. Magic is clearly going all in on this Universes Beyond set.
For comparison, the 40K Universes Beyond set got some Commander Decks and a few Secret Lair cards. Not only that, the set will have two primary launch windows, one in June and then again for the holidays in November, because those movies are basically holiday movies and you can’t tell anyone otherwise.
In June you’ll find the Jumpstart:
Starter Kit:
Prerelease Pack:
Draft Booster:
Set Booster:
Collector Booster:
Bundle:
And Gift Bundle:
Be sure and check back March 14th for a first look!
