WizKids’ has a new life-sized mimic chest “replica” up for pre-order. Which is exactly how a modern mimic would hunt you down.

In Dungeons & Dragons, mimics are predatory creatures that can take the shape of common household items. Through the years, they’ve learned to look enticing to foolhardy, adventurous sorts. Which is why you can often find mimics disguised as treasure chests. But in recent years, they’ve shown to be canny, disguising themselves as tables. Chairs. Barrels. Bookshelves.

There’s no telling what is and isn’t a mimic anymore. And one has to imagine, that if a mimic were to somehow survive to the modern age, they’d adapt to the new mode of being. When adventurers stop showing up in dungeons to rummage through chests? Disguise yourself as a statue of the thing you are.

And your prey can’t help but pre-order you right to their doorstep. Like some kind of reverse HelloFresh.

WizKids Life-Sized Mimic Chest “Replica” – $375

It’s every adventurer’s rite of passage to encounter a Mimic in combat–now you can have one with you in the room while you play! This life-sized Mimic chest is 20″ tall and made from soft foam that’s painted to show off each eye and tooth, not to mention that long tongue! This replica creature is incredibly lifelike and stands mid-lunge toward its next victim

This iconic Dungeons & Dragons creature is ready to be displayed in a place of honor whether that is amongst the aisles of your game shop or ready to greet your players as they enter your game room!

This life-sized mimic chest replica, if it is, in fact, a replica, is pretty sizable. According to the stats, it’s 15″ x 20″ making it just big enough to sit somewhere you can relax and let your guard down.

You can keep it nice and close. It’s supposedly made of soft foam, so it will be easy to keep. Delivery is expected in Q2 of 2023.

I’m just saying there’s no way someone doesn’t get eaten by one of these in a tragically ironic end.
