The world of the horror podcast The Magnus Archives is coming to a tabletop near you with its very own, newly announced RPG.

Statement begins…

Popular horror-anthology podcast The Magnus Archives, which follows an investigation into the strange things lurking in the archives of the Magnus Institute, brings to life a world of unsettling dread and bewildered archivists. It’s a world just begging to be explored.

And now, Rusty Quill, production company for The Magnus Archives and Monte Cook games have revealed that they are working on a tabletop RPG set in the Archives. Here’s what we know so far.

The Magnus Archives RPG

In the announcement, which was a backer update for the ongoing Kickstarter for The Magnus Protocols, a massive second season for the podcast, Monte Cook and Rusty Quill gave what sparse details we have:

Magnus fans have been asking for this for years! We’ve been waiting for the perfect time and the perfect collaborator for this project.

Monte Cook Games are an incredible company known for creating unique, imaginative roleplaying games with breathtaking art and extremely high production value. You may be familiar with their games, Numenera, Cypher System, Stealing Stories for the Devil and the Old Gods of Appalachia RPG, made for our friends on the RQ Network.

We will, of course, keep our fans up-to-date with everything, and we suggest signing up here to be notified on launch.

Thanks again for your amazing support!

Per Backerkit’s data, more than 6300 people have signed up at press time. This goes to show just how much of an appeal the Archives have with players. While we don’t yet know what system the Magnus Archives RPG will use, it’s hard not to assume it’ll be some form of Monte Cook’s Cypher System RPG, which powers things from Numenera to Old Gods Of Appalachia, another Rusty Quill production.

The item-focused RPG is meant to emphasize the use of all the little knick-knacks you pick up in RPGs and hang onto because, well, you never know when the real boss fight is just around the corner.

Which seems absolutely perfect for playing in a game set in the Magnus Archives. No word on when the RPG itself will become available. Though presumably not long after the campaign for The Magnus Protocol ends. If you’re curious about the RPG, you can sign up for more info right here.

See you on the other side
