Multiplayer ‘Crash Team Rumble’ Brings Crash Bandicoot Back!
The new multiplayer Crash Team Rumble game gets a release date and a pre-order beta.
Crash Bandicoot was one of the games that launched platformers into 3-D when it came to PlayStation in 1996. Developed by Naughty Dog in its early days, the plucky Bandicoot was loved by millions and has endured far longer than most platform mascots that came during the 90s. Crash has since been in over 20 games on various platforms once it stopped being a PlayStation exclusive. The Naughty Dog years are remembered the most fondly with the game since then, being mixed in reviews from both fans and critics alike. The series was left dormant in 2010 after Activision was unable to figure out what to do with the character.
The series was brought back to life in 2017 with the success of the remake Crash Bandicoot N, Sane Trilogy, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Activision was also able to successfully soft reboot the series as well with the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time by Toys for Bob. The game worked as a way to restart the timeline from right after Crash Bandicoot: Warped and also left the rest as multiverse canon. People were worried that the franchise may once again be dormant after the developer Toys for Bob ended up becoming one of the cogs of the Call of Duty machine back in 2021. Luckily, Crash Bandicoot came back with a brand-new multiplayer game revealed in December called Crash Team Rumble. Not much was known about its release until now.
Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!
Activision released a new pre-order trailer for Crash Team Rumble. The trailer revealed the game is coming out much sooner than anyone expected. The game will be released on June 20th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will also be doing a closed beta from April 20th to April 24th for anyone who pre-orders the game before then.
“Crash Team Rumble is a 4v4 team-based competition where the iconic heroes and villains of the crash universe battle to capture more Wumpa Fruit than the other to claim victory. Each Hero has unique skills and abilities to strategically use to work together to battle the opposing team, defend their own Wumpa Bank, and capture key points around the map to help their team.”
The game is all multiplayer, so anyone looking for a straightforward story is out of luck. The series is no stranger to multiplayer games with titles like Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing. Unlike Mario Party and Mario Kart, there were still stories being told in each of the multiplayer games. There is no word on if this one will have a story mode or if it is just a straightforward 4v4 game.

The most surprising thing about the announcement is that Activision also announced the pricing for the game is actually lower than most games out there. The game will have a Standard Edition at $29.99 USD and a Deluxe Edition at $39.99. Both versions will get access to the Closed Beta, but the Deluxe Edition will have much, much more in it for just a little more.

Crash Bandicoot is one of my all-time favorite series out there and I am glad he is still spinning. I will probably skip this one and only hope it does well enough to keep Activision from pulling the plug again.
