The latest Rumor Engine is out now and it looks like harvest season will soon be here. Or at least someone needs to repair their scythe.

We’ve got a pretty gnarly looking Rumor Engine today from Games Workshop. Which makes sense because it’s Tuesday and that just how they do things. What’s this Rumor Engine all about? We’ve got a few ideas but you should certainly see for yourself.

Scythe Time Is The Right Time

Clearly we’re looking at a scythe. The long, curved blade and shaft is a pretty dead give away. The next question is which army could be wielding such a tool? Well, there’s a pair for pretty obvious options right of the bat. Let’s start with the one that I think is less likely:

The Death Guard are well known for rocking their power scythes into combat. On first glance I think this could be a possible option. However, on deeper inspection I don’t think it’s the case. Why? Well, look closer are the Rumor Engine. While it’s plenty pitted and rusty, it doesn’t have any “power” cables or anything else indicating it’s from the 40k Grimdark universe. Which leads me to my next option…

This looks like it could be a Nighthaunt weapon for sure. Maybe not a new Grimghast Reaper Scythe, but certainly one from the army. Or at least one from the Death faction. Look at the shaft part — it’s wood much like the ones in the picture above. It’s not a smooth, clean piece of wood. It’s got those rough-hewn edges to it.

I know that the Nighthaunt and even the Soulblight Gravelords aren’t due for any more new models. But maybe GW is thinking about something further down the line. It could be a new Hero for the Death faction. Or maybe it’s a new hero/character for Underworlds. There’s options and places for GW to stretch their sculptor’s skills.

What we do know for sure is this scythe has seen better days. It looks pretty old and rusty and worn. Who’s rocking this weapon? We’ll have to wait to find out for sure. But I’m betting it’s going to be someone spooky!
