‘Street Fighter VI’ Looks Incredible in Brand New Showcase
Capcom showcases new Street Fighter VI modes – with Lil’ Wayne.
Street Fighter VI was officially announced in February 2022 after being teased for a bit. Capcom has released many sequels for the series, but they all were prequels to Street Fighter 3. This made it so that nothing felt different for the characters in both story and gameplay since Bison just wouldn’t go down. This left Ryu in a constant state of getting some new things, but never that different from Street Fighter 3. Now that Street Fighter V put Bison down for good, Street Fighter VI has been shaping up to be the most ambitious Street Fighter game ever made.
Many things have been released about things in the game and Capcom just showed off the most about the single-player World Tour Mode and so much more in a brand-new showcase.
Street Fighter or Streetest Fightest?
Capcom recently had a showcase just for Street Fighter VI and was hosted by musician Lil Wayne. The showcase was chockfull of brand-new information on how the World Tour Mode worked and many more features. The game is shaping up to be one of the most feature-heavy fighting games of all time. I will try to recap the biggest parts of it all.
World Tour and Avatar Uses
New to the Street Fighter world is World Tour which has been shown a few times before now. Players will create a character who will run around the world of Street Fighter to learn moves from a variety of fighters. Announced within the showcase was more of how learning things from fighters worked. It works sort of like Dragon Ball Xenoverse in that you find the character out in the world and they take you in as a pupil. You also will be traveling around the world to find all current 18 fighters using Flight Tickets and some may be hidden compared to others. Learning moves will depend on your bond with the character. You increase how much more you learn from them when doing missions for them and you can even give them gifts to increase that bond level. The moves then can be used during traversal and against enemies who would attack you while walking in the world.
The World Tour works like an RPG in that you can level up your avatar. The avatar will earn Skill Points that are then used on the Skill Tree for becoming a better fighter suited to your needs. There are also consumables like drinks and food that can replenish health or increase stats. You are also able to fight random enemies in the world that can level up your character faster as well. They can be in the world and run after you. You have an ability called Drive Stall that will slow down the world to either avoid them or get a good hit in as a first strike. During the fights, you can also hit them when they flash to induce something called Pressure Time to make beating them easier.
The other usage of the avatar character is that they can be used in the Battle Hub where all the online matches are accessible in. They can be used to fight other avatar characters with an assortment of moves that they themselves have added to their avatar. This can make for some very crazy battles since you could be doing a Hadoken and a Zangief Piledriver in one character against someone using Dhalsim’s style with Chun-Li’s kicks. You can also make clubs to team up with other players and friends similar to the clubs in Gundam Battle Operations.
Modes and Features Galore
The game sports the most features I have seen for a fighting game ever. It rivals even the things the Mortal Kombat series has given players. The game will consist of an Arcade Mode, Team Battle, Extreme Battle, Combo Trials, Character Guides, and a Tutorial Mode. The Arcade Mode is for players to unlock stories for characters and art as well as compete on leaderboards for the highest score. Extreme Battle works similarly to a mode in many Mortal Kombat games. It lets players add different modifiers to a fight to make wackier fights. Examples would be fights where you can’t jump or a bull shows up to attack the players. So feel free to go nuts on it to just see how crazy it can get before it stops you from fighting.
Team Battle is a mode that lets you fight against other players or CPUs with a team. This is pretty exciting for online modes to make for some really fun times with friends. The rest of the modes like Combo Trials, Character Guides, and a Tutorial Mode are great ways to learn how to play the game for newcomers. They let the player train in different ways like fundamentals or stringing combos together.
The last set of features is the Sound Accessibility options and the Battle Damage feature. The sound accessibility makes the game do specific noises depending on placement and what is done in the game. This mode is good for understanding different things like placement, cross-ups, and more. It is optional, so it can be turned off. The battle damage works the way it does in Injustice in that you take cosmetic damage as the battle goes. So you will have cuts, bruises, and dirt all over the player. This also can be turned off as well.
Online Mode
The game will have the ability to let players make custom rooms for their friends. This way you don’t have to worry about getting stuck looking for lobbies to ask your friends to go to like some games do. It lets you set up any of the current modes and goes up to 16 players.
The game will also have Casual and Ranked Matches as usual. Ranked Matches will give players some leeway when they level up to keep people from automatically going down from one lost fight after working so hard to go up in rank. Which is very nice to have.
Year One Characters and Demo
The showcase confirmed the 4 DLC characters for the 1st year pass that will be coming out. Returning characters are Rashid, Ed, and Akuma. A.K.I is a brand new character, so she is a mystery. The rest of them I am very happy to see the return, especially Rashid and Akuma.
The showcase ended with them announcing the game will be getting a World Tour demo that is out now for PS4 and PS5 players, but all others will have to wait till April 26th to try it out.
Street Fighter V was a major disappointing launch and Capcom has learned its lesson with a game that will make everyone happy this time around.
Street Fighter VI will be out on PS4,PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on June 2nd
