New spoilers for the Lord of the Rings Universes Beyond set reveal a party to remember (and disappear from forever).

Lord of the Rings and Magic: the Gathering aren’t necessarily the first two flavors you’d consider crossing over. They’re more like a combo that makes sense when you think about it. Like serving up chocolate and carob together. They’re both kind of the same thing, but they still actually work if you eat ’em on the same dish.

And as we start to see more and more of the new set, we get a look at how it all fits together. Whether that’s a new look at a scarier Sauron, or an assembled party, there’s plenty to play around with. Let’s take a look!

Lord of the Rings Universes Beyond Spoilers – Bilbo’s Birthday

Here we get a look at six cards:

  • Lobella Sackville-Baggins – Menacing enough to make any creature card hide, even in the graveyard.
  • Wizard’s Rockets – An explosion of mana that will fix exactly what you need and grant you card advantage.
  • Gandalf, Friend of the Shire – A Wizard whose Sorcery spells are never late, they always arrive exactly when they mean to, since they have Flash.
  • Delighted Halfling – A Halfling who has discovered that it does, in fact, come in pints. And who makes legendary spells uncounterable, when you absolutely have to get that card out.
  • Bilbo, Retired Burglar – He’ll disappear, but not before leaving you with enough Treasure tokens.
  • Frodo Baggins – A perfect Ring-bearer.

Of course these are just the start. There’s plenty more due out in the forthcoming set. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. But Magic: the Gathering x Lord of the Rings is just around the corner. Assuming we can make it that long without the Pinkertons being called on anyone.

What do you think of the panorama?
