Amazon’s ‘Wheel of Time’ Confirms a Major Character Will Appear in Season 2

After years of speculation, we finally know that this major character will be in The Wheel of Time season 2.

Filming on The Wheel of Time season two wrapped up quite some time ago. In fact, filming for Season 3 has already begun. Despite that, we still know relatively little about the mysterious season 2, with no release date announced.  The showrunners have slowly been dropping some hints, which could indicate the show is coming in the near-ish future. However, we still don’t know if several major characters will be in season 2. Some actors that have been cast in the season still have not had their roles revealed. We did recently learn that one major character will be in season 2–Verin.

Verin Confirmed a Major Character Joining Season 2

We’ve known since all the way back in 2021 that Meera Syal was joining The Wheel of Time season 2. Who she would be playing however was never announced. There was a lot of speculation as to who she could be, with it seeming likely she would take on the role of an Aes Sedai. Many people speculated that she would be playing the fan-favorite Verin Mathwin. Recently this was officially confirmed. The internet sleuths were correct and the Brown Ajah is getting a strong representative.

Who is Verin Mathwin?

In the books, Verin Mathwin is a sister of the Brown Ajah of the Aes Sedai. She is bonded to the warder Tomas. She is an older and well-respected member of the Aes Sedai, and despite sharing the ageless look of all the sisters, is described as looking like an aunt or cook at an inn. Super faltering. So is quite powerful with the One Power and displays some rare abilities. She first appears in book 2 and becomes an important player after that point. With that in mind, it makes sense for her to join as a major character in season 2. Though allied with the main heroes (and Rand) she often seems to working towards her own mysterious goals.

Still a Lot of Questions

Though the announcement of Verin joining as a major character in The Wheel of Time season 2 is nice, we still have a lot of questions. The most pressing is when season 2 will even release as that remains the biggest unknown. We don’t know how exactly books two and three will be combined into one for the season. We also still have a number of important characters that have not been announced as being in the season. It’s pretty impressive that a season that finished filming months ago has kept this tight a lid on things.

Verin joining this season is a step in the right direction. There as some pretty big characters that really need to be introduced by the end of season 2, and some should have been in season 1, for them to have anything close to their book roles. On the other hand, the season already has a lot to do in combining two books, so introducing a ton of new characters is extra work. Of course, one major question on everyone’s mind is “will it be any good”. For that, we will just have to wait.
