We have a pretty good idea of what this Rumor Engine is but that just leads to more mysteries and questions.

There are a iconic items in the Grimdark of Warhammer 40,000 that are fairly easy to spot. However those same items can be quite ubiquitous at the same time and just because you know what it is doesn’t mean you know what it is. Today’s Rumor Engine is a perfect example of that.

“Can’t talk! Need to quantify the rapidly increasing mountain of Non-Replicable Generations! Old catalogue system overrun! Need more souls! More rumours! More images! Unending! Infinite! The pile will grow! Blot out the sun! Become all! Become you! In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only rumours and engines!”

A Chaos Star Is Born

Sidenote: The meta-narrative seems to be driving the Rumor Engine crew a little mad. Who knew that Non-Replicable Generations would be problematic…

Anyhow, on the the actual Rumor Engine! It’s a Chaos Star. The points on the star are a clue but also the spikes are quite obvious. We’ve seen this as a chaos icon before from lots of different things. And therein lies the problem. There’s LOTS of things that used the eight-pointed Chaos Star as an icon. We’ve seen it pop up on everything from Cultists, to Chaos Space Marines, to Daemon Engines.

But it doesn’t stop there. Don’t forget that Chaos also has its reach into the Mortal Realms of Age of Sigmar and there’s lots of folks who have Chaos Icons in their ranks, too. And the wielders of this icon are just as diverse and plenty as their 40k counter-parts.

Frankly, the options are a tad overwhelming. We also don’t know the exact scale/size of this Chaos Icon. What we do know is that there certainly looks to be some new chaos unit coming in the future. Who can really say who’s wielding it? That’s the fun of the Rumor Engine though! If you’ve got a theory drop us a line in the comments with what you think it could be!

Oh Chaos, you crazy…
