Order your favorite pizza and get comfortable–the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge DLC is a shellshocker, dudes!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a comic was created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 as a parody of popular trends at the time: teenagers, mutants, ninjas, and talking animals. The comics gained a following very quickly and it only escalated from there. The series has since produced decades worth of toys, manga, television shows, movies, and yes, video games.

The most famous games in the franchise are all beat ’em up games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989) and TMNT: Turtles in Time with versions on home consoles that added or changed them up. The series game-wise started to run out of gas due to fans being given games that were, to put it politely, terrible. Luckily, the teams at Dotemu and Tribute Games convinced the rights holders to let them create a brand-new beat ’em up with a playable Master Splinter, April, and Casey Jones as well.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge was released last June and was an instant classic. Up to 6 players are able to play together and the game plays like a dream. I have beaten it multiple times and like all beat ’em ups, just hit a wall where you can only beat it so many times. Dotemu and Tribute Games have wonderful news for someone like me!

Let’s Kick Shell!

Dotemu and Tribute Games both announced on their Twitter Pages that the game would be receiving DLC later this year! The DLC will be called “Dimension Shellshock” and will be bringing in some cool things for fans as well as a new game mode.

The stuff we know currently is that the game will be getting new color skins for all the current characters to make them look either more like the comic colors, NES game colors, and various other reference colors to make the player stand out more in the 6-player chaos. The DLC also will be adding fan-favorite samurai Usagi Yojimbo would be added to the roster. The announcement indicates that he isn’t the only character to come to the DLC.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge unveils a brand new Dimension Shellshock DLC, coming later this year to Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility.

In addition to a new game mode and character colors, Dimension Shellshock brings new playable fighters, including the razor-sharp Usagi Yojimbo. The steely rabbit samurai is ready to hop across dimensions to fight evil and witness a new style of otherworldly battles awaiting the Turtles!”

The new game mode is mostly a mystery and was hinted at in the announcement and trailer a lot. Looks like the Turtles jump through a dimensional portal to fight the Foot Clan and more across dimensions. They look like all new levels, so expect to hear plenty of great music from the composer Tee Lopes.

Unfortunately, we do not have a concrete release date for the DLC, which is how the original release was. We didn’t know the exact date of the game until it was coming out a week before the date. I am anxious to find out when this comes out and would love to play it co-op with friends, either online or couch co-op.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is out on PC via Steam, PS5 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch with Dimension Shellshock DLC to release later this year.
