D&D: ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Returns to the Iconic City With a New Trailer
As we keep closer to the release date, Baldur’s Gate 3 shows us just how far the city’s come in 20 years with a gorgeous new trailer.
Baldur’s Gate 3 comes out in a little over two months. And with it, a dip into a city that forged its way into the hearts of many with two legendary games. And a third expansion that we don’t talk about as much, not because it wasn’t good, but because it ruins the nomenclature of Baldur’s Gate 3, which is showcasing a gorgeous new City trailer.
This new City trailer takes us into Baldur’s Gate. And it’s surprisingly vibrant. The colors are lush. Rich. There’s a lot of life just wandering by the screen. So let’s dive right in and take a look at what’s new in the city.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – The City Trailer
Return to Baldur’s Gate for the first time in 20 years, as the iconic city prepares for war. Rediscover legendary locations, uncover new mysteries, and embark on a journey to shape the city’s destiny.
Baldur’s Gate 3 picks up the torch from its predecessors. Now handled by Larian Studios (of Divinity: Original Sin fame), we get a look at a Baldur’s Gate that’s been constructed as a seamless city. In the new trailer, the city takes on a life of its own.
As the camera soars past vistas crowded with crenelated walls and looming spires and through the docks at the port where ships laden with goods from all around the Sword Coast wait, we get to see that this is a city full of life.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has a pseudo-open-world vibe going to it. Like Divinity before it, Larian Studios is at its best when making big maps that you can explore as much or as little as you’d like. You won’t be traveling everywhere trying to collect all the collectibles.
But when you get to Baldur’s Gate, the city—as we saw in the trailer—has plans of its own. You might be the new calamity about to happen to it. You might be the hero the city so sorely needs. The choice will, ultimately be yours.
Whether you’re a savior or a catastrophe, the city lives and breathes. According to Larian, this is where a ton of the studios’ focus has gone. They’ve made the city a place to pay off storylines and to take the characters, not just to the next level, but into a whole new act.
