Ubisoft Forward and Capcom Showcases ‘Star Wars’, ‘Avatar’, ‘Ace Attorney’, & More
Ubisoft and Capcom – the two companies had little surprises but made up for them in their own ways.
With E3 canceled this year, many companies decided to hold their own presentations with two of them being Ubisoft and Capcom. The 2 companies didn’t have any huge show stoppers thanks to showing some off at Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase but they still had some cool stuff to show.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
This one was shown off during Summer Game Fest and Ubisoft had a lot to show for it. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a brand new Metroidvania adventure in the series. The developers showed off a ton of gameplay to show how they made the newer platforming gameplay the series is known for translate into a classic feeling 2-D sidescroller. The time powers will be part of the game with more of a twist to make it more useful in this new game like dashing or leaving a “last location” like a spot to teleport to avoid damage.
Ubisoft also went into depth behind-the-scenes stuff like design, game mechanics, and more. The way the developers talk about the series and fans is that they respect the creativity players have when playing. They are hopeful everyone will be a huge fan of the game and its mechanics. I am a sucker for a good Metroidvania, so I hope it does well.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is currently set for release on January 17th, 2024 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was announced at E3 2021 with originally a release timeframe of 2022. The game missed coming out with the sequel to the movie and Ubisoft used that time to polish the game.
“Set in the never-before-seen Western Frontier of Pandora, you play as a child of two worlds, born Na’vi but raised by the RDA. Fifteen years later, you are free, but find yourself a stranger in your birthplace. Reconnect with your lost heritage, discover what it truly means to be Na’vi, and join other clans to protect Pandora from the RDA.
AdvertisementSet after the events of the first Avatar film, you’ll embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen continent of Pandora, as you join other Na’vi clans to protect Pandora from the formidable forces of the RDA.”
The game is about Na’vi who was captured young and taught how to use RDA technology before the RDA left Pandora the first time. They were then frozen for 15 years and now must learn how to be a true Na’vi in Pandora’s Western Frontier. The player will also be fighting the RDA with their newfound Na’vi knowledge as well as using the know-how on their weapons against them.
The game is mainly in 1st person outside of riding various animals and will be full of ways to customize your character like voices, body types, and body paint. It will have some upgrades to keep the game from getting stale like getting stronger crafted weapons and different foods for stat boosts. The game looks to be a treat for any fan of the series and will have a co-op mode for someone to join them on this open-world adventure.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released on December 7th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna, and PC
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
One of the only things shown off that were not a game was a brand new TV show from Adi Shankar, who produced the Castlevania Netflix series. He was asked if he would do a series anime for a Ubisoft property and decided instead to pitch a wacky anime based on the humor in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. He got his wish and showed off a very fun-looking trailer.
“The year is 1992. The country formerly known as the USA is now called Eden, a technocracy ruled by propaganda and corruption.

He must now lead a team of rebel outcasts on risky undercover missions in order to survive.”
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a fun time and an anime with its tongue-in-cheek humor it was known for has a lot of potential. The anime has access to many of Ubisoft’s properties based on the trailer, so keep an eye out for this one for Fall 2023.
Star Wars: Outlaws
Star Wars: Outlaws would have been a show-stopper if not already shown at the Xbox Showcase. Luckily, Ubisoft all the gameplay for their showcase. The game looks fantastic with Kay doing a heist that goes south and has her fighting her way out to come back with the goods. She arrives only to upset an Imperial officer by not bribing them and has to flee the planet. The gameplay is smooth and has everything you would want from a game like this. Stealth, action, intrigue, vehicles, and the ability to fly your ship out of the planet without a load screen in the middle. Now that is impressive!
The game will have players making different choices that will affect the story as well as the relationships Kay will have with different factions as seen by the indicators throughout the gameplay. The developers talked more about who Kay is with the actress. Kay is on the run and her best companions are a droid and a small alien pet named Nix. Kay embraces the underworld life to survive and they are excited for people to experience her story.
Star Wars Outlaws is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC in 2024
Capcom 40th Anniversary Site
What better way to move on to Capcom than show they are celebrating their’s 40th Anniversary with fun site players can visit called Capcom Town. There people can look over and even play some games from Capcom’s past. There is plenty to do on that site besides that, so give it a look.
Pragmata
Not a ton is known about Pragmata outside of its initial trailer. All we can piece together is it is about a man and a little girl with special powers. The game was slated for 2022 release but was delayed to this year. We got another look at it in a small montage and seems it has been delayed again with no clue when. New IPs are always a fun thing to keep an eye on in gaming, so I am looking forward to seeing what it ends up being.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy
Ace Attorney is one of my all-time favorite series and with the 3DS shop now closed, it looked like Ace Attorney 4-6 were doomed to only be playable on mobile. Well, Capcom understands how important this series is and will be releasing the 3 games in HD for consoles.
The 3 games together are about Phoenix Wright and Apollo ending a dark time in law where people lost faith in the judicial system after both defense attorneys and prosecutors are rocked by scandal. It is up to them to restore people’s faith and make sure no innocent is found guilty of something they didn’t commit.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy will release in early 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC
Dragon’s Dogma 2
The last thing shown by Capcom was a little more about Dragon’s Dogma 2 and that it will still be a single-player game with plenty of customization options for the AI companions. They also explained it would be 4 times larger than the previous title and hinted at the characters on the importance of the cover. They held off on much more than that and we can only stay tuned to see more.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, TBA
Keep an eye out for these games in the future, you won’t be disappointed.
Happy gaming!
