Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan arrives in stores this weekend and to get you ready GW has a bunch of painting tips ready to go!

This weekend looks to be a fantastic time for the hobby because Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan is finally arriving in stores. If you pre-ordered a copy online or if you got your order in the stores the boxes should be arriving on Saturday. Games Workshop is hosting a hobby hang-out tomorrow and has also created a bunch of free videos for the painting projects ahead!

The team have now put together a wide range of videos covering the entire contents of the Leviathan box, in the colours of the Ultramarines and Hive Fleet Leviathan.

There’s lots more videos on their official youtube channel as well.

And these guides aren’t just for Ultramarines and Hive Fleet Leviathan — there’s many more variations for both Space Marine Chapters and other Hive Fleets, too. Personally I think these videos are good guides for color choice and also techniques with examples. And even if you don’t match them exactly you can pull from their color options and maybe even learn a thing or two about the various techniques used. I think it’s important to “see how they do it” and then give it your own spin.

One example I’ll use is Imperial Fists. I know that yellow can be an intimidating color for folks to paint. However, you can use the steps GW uses on the Imperial Fists to get some really nice results — and you can then take those same colors and techniques and transfer them over to other armies. Want yellow Tyranids? Start with the Imperial Fists colors and test them out yourself!

My biggest piece of advice for the Leviathan minis is just to break it down into manageable chunks. I prefer a unit-by-unit system. Some folks might want to tackle all of the same color at once but for me that’s just too many models on my workbench at once. But the key is finding what works for you and finishing up that hobby goal!

And once you get your forces battle ready you can join in for the battle for Oghram which kicks off on June 26th. Just make sure you balance out those points…

What are you most excited to get on your hobby bench this weekend?
