In rare gaming news, the upcoming D&D RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released ahead of schedule, per an announcement from its devs.

When it comes to video games, delays are often the order of the day. Especially in these times of supply chain issues compounding an already fluid industry. Even the tabletop RPG industry has been hit with delays; Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, the next D&D book was pushed back to the end of August.

Today brought news of the opposite of a delay. Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios announced the game would be released three weeks earlier than planned. Alongside the release date info, we got a look at some of the content making its way into the final game, including a new look at the Monk.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Releasing Early Now

Baldur’s Gate 3 will release on August 3rd. At least, on PC. The PS5 release has been pushed back to September 6th, so console players will have to wait a full month or so before they can jump into the game. Doubtless, the community of console players will respond with the patience and grace they’re known for.

But for PC players, the game opens its doors early! And whatever platform you’re playing on, there’s even more good news as we slide into the final weeks before launch. With a little more than 30 days until launch, Larian is still rolling out the unexpected toys.

Including as you’ve seen above, Dragonborn and Half-Orcs as new playable species. Joining them will be the psionically empowered Duergar:

These genetically manipulated dwarves were once enslaved and experimented on by Mind Flayers. That should make playing one quite interesting. Alongside the new species, Monks get added in as well.

With martial arts and a bit of magic, adapted into Baldur’s Gate 3’s version of the 5E rules, Monks have a lot to play with. The traditional Way of Shadow, Open Hand, and Four Elements options will be present. We’ll have to wait and see if the latter ends up being playable or not.

Still, things are looking exciting for Baldur’s Gate 3. We should get one last look in July!
