Age of Sigmar: Cities of Sigmar Range Updates – Units Leaving The Range
Games Workshop has finally confirmed what units are leaving the Cities of Sigmar Range. What’s going to happen next?
It appears that the Cities of Sigmar range is going to get a little smaller before it gets any larger. GW is removing units from the range and this will have an impact on the Cities of Sigmar down the line.
Cities of Sigmar Range Updates
“If you have any of these classic models in your existing Cities of Sigmar line-up don’t worry. In almost every instance, there’s still a similar analogue in the battletome. For example, you could use your Wildwood Rangers (elite aelves with two-handed swords) as Executioners (elite aelves with two-handed swords). “
Games Workshop did make it clear that if you still have these older models that you can still use them but you’ll want to figure out what unit they will be from the new battletome. Additionally, you’ll want to make it clear to your opponent as well. Some of these units will also get “like-for-like” replacements. If I had to guess I’d say the Freeguild units in particular.
What About Duardin And Aelves?
Another question we’ve all had is “what’s going to happen to the Duardin and Aelves allies in the Cities of Sigmar?” They aren’t going away but your options might be a bit limited. In fact, GW spells that out:
“If you like the idea of a combined arms force of aelves, duardin and humans, that works too. And you can still field all-aelven or entirely duardin armies if you like, though you may find your choices somewhat limited. “
So if you were wondering if the Cities of Sigmar was going to shift to a mostly human sub-faction the answer is yes. Again, you’ll still be able to have Duardin and Aelves but the backbone of this army is going to be the humans of the Cities of Sigmar. So where will the Duardin and Aelves go?
Yep. But don’t go rebasing those models just yet…at least wait until we get some official base sizes from GW for those units!
New Units And Replacements
“We’ve now seen a new General, and new infantry, cavalry, gunners, and even an ogor, while more updated units – including artillery – are on their way to a preview article near you. These miniatures will be replacing many current models on a like-for-like basis.
Quite a few current units, including the Steam Tank, Celestial Hurricanum, and Imperial Griffon, will continue their service as part of the Cities of Sigmar.”
So yes, there are even more units on the way. And yes, some of the classic units are sticking around. I’m actually a little surprised the Demigryph Knights got removed as those were actually newer models compared to the rest of the previous range. Oh well.
One pleasant surprise that’s sticking around are the Dark Aelves models. The don’t appear to be leaving the range at all.
None of those models are listed as getting removed from the range and the Dark Elves themselves aren’t currently listed in the Old World Core Factions list. We’ve long had rumors of an Umbraneth (Shadow Aleves) faction coming. But whatever GW has planned for these units they are still sticking around in the Cities of Sigmar — for now.
There’s also no Duardin models listed as leaving the range either. That said, they don’t have a ton of options but at least you could still run them in your Cities armies.
So there you have it! Quite a few units are leaving. Some are getting replacements. Some will have to be reformed as other similar units. Hopefully this doesn’t completely destroy your army that you’ve spent time on. And if it does…well the bright side is at least you’re getting a new battletome.
Anyone else wondering what’s going to be the lore reason the Wood Elves and High Elves leave the Cities of Sigmar?
