D&D: Planescape Pre-Order Previews Product – Check Out The Three-Book Set!
Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse is up for pre-order now, and the pre-order page shows off a little more about the 3-book set!
Planescape makes its highly anticipated 5th Edition debut in October. If you’re unfamiliar with the setting, Planescape was one of the most beloved settings in 2nd Edition. And a big part of that was because of how different and specific and detailed it was. Will the 5th Edition version be able to hold onto that specificity and weirdness? Or will the beloved setting’s bite be subdued in favor of a more commercial appeal?
We’ll have to wait and see whether this return to Planescape turns out to be like Episode 1: The Phantom Menace when people first saw it and their expectations were dashed to the ground, or like Episode 1: The Phantom Menace twenty years later when you’re like “actually this kinda rules?”
At any rate, the pre-order page gives away some details about the new backgrounds, feats, and factions – though sadly, it looks like there are no new subclasses or new species options, which will leave some wanting. But for the rest, there are plenty of new creatures and factions and other things to play with.
For now, let’s take a look at the pre-order page, which at press time is a “digital only” pre-order on D&D Beyond or the Hybrid bundle from WotC directly, and that’s it for now. Presumably, Amazon and your Friendly Local Game Store will have their pre-orders available shortly as well.

- Turn of Fortune’s Wheel: an adventure set in Sigil and the Outlands designed for character levels 3-10 with a jump to level 17
- Morte’s Planar Parade: Follow Morte as he presents over 50 inhabitants of the Outer Plane, including incarnates, hierarch modrons, time dragons, and more with their stats and descriptions

Planescape Details
First of all, you might want to go out of your way to get your hands on one of the FLGS sets. Because the Friendly Local Game Store version is the only place you’ll be able to get the special deluxe cover with artwork by the artist who created the look of Planescape, Tony DiTerlizzi. The covers are pictured above.
Secondly, Morte, everyone’s favorite magic-talking skull from the Planescape Torment video game, gets a ton of “screen time” here, as the titular character for this boxed-set’s monster manual: Morte’s Planar Parade.
You can see him right there on the cover, eyes wide as he goes screaming towards the cover. And another big Planescape character is at the heart of the adventure. On the cover of the Turn of Fortune’s Wheel is none other than Shemeshka the Marauder, Sigil’s most infamous Arcanloth:
With this much care to detail, hopefully Planescape still hangs onto what made the setting special.
