Warhammer 40K: Still Not Giving Up On A Tyranid Lord Of War In Plastic
It might be a fool’s errand but I haven’t given up hope that we might get a Tyranid Lord of War in plastic.
The Oghram Previews have come and gone and we got a look at a bunch of new kits coming for the Tyranids. While I’m stoked about them I can’t help but feel like Games Workshop was holding back something for when the Codex gets released, too. And before you think I’m just pulling this hope out of nowhere here’s the picture that’s keeping me going on the Lord of War train:
This was the teaser that GW showed off for the new display they are working on for Warhammer World. If you notice on the top of the picture there’s a bunch of blurred out Tyranid creatures and they are rather large. Could those be Exocrines? Maybe. But what if they aren’t? That’s been my theory this whole time — those could be some new creepy crawlers for the Tyranids.
So what could they be? Well, there’s a few candidates that would fit that centipede like body. And they also happen to be good options for a Tyranid Lord of War, too.
A Malefactor is a large Tyranid assault creature that is able to transport a brood of other Tyranid creatures into battle under its thick carapace. It is surprisingly fast and is armed with Acid Jets and Frag Spines.
It’s at least got a similar body type. I do wonder how a Tyranid transport vehicle would work. Especially after the Tyranid Turducken…
The Nautiloid is a massive species of Tyranid. Carrying a massive shell resembling that of a snail, its mid- and rear-limbs are fused into a pseudopod and Lash Whip combination.
This one is on the list mostly because of the shell and lash whips. Plus the body type could be similar to what we’re seeing in that image as well.
The Viragon is an enormous Tyranid worm-like organism capable of tunneling through the ground akin to the more well-known Trygon.
The Viragon isn’t super high on my personal preferences for Tyrannic Lords of War as it’s basically a bigger Trygon. Not that GW would ever make a model that’s basically a bigger version of a previous model or anything. Okay okay, a Primaris’d Tyrgon would kinda be scary!
Cerebore
The Cerebore is a large Tyranid organism equipped with sacs to transport smaller creatures into battle, similar to the roles fulfilled by the Haruspex. It is equipped with a hardened exoskeleton on its back for protection and multiple tentacles to fend off attackers.
Now the lore on this one is dated – it was mentioned in Chapter Approved 2001, before the Haruspex got it’s re-work to what that model is now. That said it could still work as a cool Lord of War option. I don’t know if that’s what we’re seeing in the image above. Then again, if it DID have a massive maw similiar to the Haruspex but ALSO carried little bugs to battle that would be kinda nuts.
It’s a blurry photo but it looks too small to be Dominatrix. What do you think it could be?
