There’s a new batch of terrain coming to Legions Imperialis and it’s looking epic. These games are going to look good!

When it comes to the battlefields of Legions Imperialis there’s no denying just how epic these games are going to look with the right battlefield. Games Workshop is rolling out some brand new terrain to go with the new scale and it’s going to make for some stunning scenery.

“Legions Imperialis can be played wherever you have the space for a game, but the incredible detail packed into these diminutive detachments really deserves an equally impressive battlefield. Happily, there’s plenty of epic scale terrain to come – some of it returning from the Adeptus Titanicus range, and some of it completely new. “

New Legions Imperialis Terrain

Kicking things off we need to start with a good foundation. That happens to be the brand new Civitas Imperialis Road Tiles.

“The Civitas Imperialis City Road Tiles are fully sculpted, finely detailed plastic tiles that will transform a bare table into an immersive urban environment. These 12×12″ squares fit together neatly to build Legions Imperialis battlefields for any game size. “

These packs will contain the following road tiles:

  • 2x straight roads
  • 2x T-junction roads
  • 2x crossroads

That’s perfect for a nice set of modular boards to play on. If you lay them out in the traditional pattern that’s a nice sized 2′ x 3′ space for your games. I’d like to get my hands on these as they are going to be plastic and are supposed to be relatively flat. That’s ideal for the larger minis in the range. We don’t know the exact footprint of the recommended play space for Legions Imperialis yet but these boards do provide a good indication. I think having access to a set (or two) might be a great investment if you’re thinking about play Legions Imperialis.

Additionally, we’ve seen GW tease these buildings before but here they are officially. These are the Civitas Imperialis Ruins.

“These impressively modular pieces can be combined in loads of different ways, allowing you to adorn your city with piles of scattered rubble, the broken husks of entire wrecked buildings, or lonely crumbling walls now used as barricades. What’s more, they make for some great basing detail for your Titans.”

These wrecked buildings do look a whole lot like the type of terrain you’d find on a 40k table — only in epic scale. That’s exciting news because this game will feature epic scale infantry and tanks so maneuvering among the ruins is going to be a big deal.

Returning Terrain Sets

Those ruins had to come from somewhere and the used to be the Terrain set now dubbed Civitas Imperialis. This set is re-released Adeptus Titanicus buildings that are highly modular and can be built in a multitude of ways. These buildings offer up gothic domiciles with the options for lots of urban sprawl or massive skyscrapers.

Additionally, one of my favorite terrain sets is also getting a re-release with the Manufactorum Imperialis kit. It’s one of my favorites because it has those tiny shipping containers which are hands down my personal favorite detail.

With these various kits coming to Legions Imperialis you should have a wide array of options when constructing your personal board. And because it’s all so modular you’ll be able to change it up after every game and keep the battlefield interesting!
