Legions Imperialis: Titan Legion Rules Explored
Want to bring a God-Engine to the battlefield of Legions Imperialis? Today we’re getting a look at their rules to do just that!
Legions Imperialis is introducing the massive scale battles of the Horus Heresy we’ve only gotten to read about: Hundreds of Astartes battling it out besides Tanks, Aircraft, and Titans. The epic scale of the miniatures is going to provide for some truly epic games. And I’m looking forward to seeing it all play out.
One thing I’m most excited for is bringing out the Titans and using them in addition to all those Astartes (and Solar Auxilia) running around. Today GW is showing off a few of the Titan Legion rules and they are looking mighty spicy.
Titans In Legions Imperialis
“Each Titan is a walking fortress, though the Warlord is one of the most fearsome and flexible, and offers an abundance of weapon loadout choices for the discerning Princeps. Their Detachment card is appropriately bonkers, letting you tailor your Titan with a choice of delicious weapons. Whether you fancy the Belicosa volcano cannon, graviton ruinator, or conversion beam extirpator, you can load up and turn them on a mass of tiny troops.”
Warlord Battle Titan Detachment Card
This is our first real look at the Warlord Battle Titan in Legions Imperialis and it’s quite the powerhouse. While it’s only got a movement of 5″ keep in mind how massive this beast is going to be. Plus the range of its weapons more than make-up for the lack of speed. That said, it’s got a whopping 2+ save as well as a CAF of +14! That means it’s likely to stomp it’s way to victory if anything does manage to get up close to it.
Additionally, it has a wounds stat of 6 — but don’t forget those 6 additional Void Shields at the very bottom of it’s rules. That’s going to make the Warlord Titan super tanky.
Void Shields are a powerful defensive tool that can come back online after being taken down. That’s why there have been a few different weapon systems designed to help take out those defensive measures before the real shots to take down a Titan are fired. These weapons have the Shieldbane trait.
You might also see weapons with Shieldbane paired with the Light AT keyword. Normally, Light AT would prevent these attacks from being allocated to the Void Shields. However, Shieldbane overrules those attacks which makes them effective at dropping those shields with a flurry of shots.
This is a funky interaction but it’s worth understanding how it works because it’s going to be key in being able to drop the shields of Titans (and other defenses) in Legions Imperialis.
Dire World Heavy Scout Titan
Another example is the “smaller” Dire Wolf Heavy Scout Titan. It might be a smaller Titan than the Warlord but it’s still a Titan! It comes with a faster movement 7″ with a 2+ save and a CAF of +10. It’s also packing 4 wounds and 2 Void Shields so even this Titan is practically immune to small arms fire.
If you’re looking for a true combined arms for you certainly should consider a Titan for your list. Bringing a God-Machine along is one heck of a way to make a statement with your Legions Imperialis army!
