Horus Heresy: Legions Imperials Adding Solar Auxilia Artillery
Who would have guessed that the Solar Auxilia would get even more tanks that pack a long range punch? It’s Medusa and Basilisk time!
When your army is made up of mostly “normal” people you’ve got to find an edge when your enemies are genetically modified superhumans and walking skyscrapers that pack army destroying power on their shoulders. That’s why the Solar Auxilia brings the boom with tanks and long range firepower. Today we’re getting a look at a new artillery squadron on the horizon for these troopers. The classic Basilisk and Medusa tanks are rolling in with the thunder!
“The Medusa packs a high calibre, relatively short gun designed for crushing vehicles and fortifications under shells the size of a dustbin.* This often necessitates getting a little closer than you might like, but unlike their counterparts from the 41st Millennium, they’re amply protected in a Leman Russ-class chassis instead of the Chimera-based vehicle of the further future.
In contrast, the Basilisk still uses the classic Earthshaker cannon you know and love, hurling high explosives over ludicrous distances to smash apart infantry, walkers, and vehicles alike. It’s the final word in long-range fire support, with enough firepower to force your enemy out of position as they divert valuable troops to suppressing your artillery.”
Solar Auxilia Artillery
These Artillery squadrons are coming to Legions Imperialis soon enough. One thing to note is that both of these tanks are using the Leman Russ chassis instead of the Chimera-based ones in 40k. It’s a subtle difference but it’s one that separates these from their modern iterations.
What Solar Auxilia players really want to know is how many will come in a box. The answer is that eight of them will be included per box and can be assembled as which ever artillery platform you would like to use. As mentioned above the Medusa is a shorter range version that packs quite a punch while the Basilisk uses the earthshaker cannons at a longer range. You’ll really want to go with the option that best supports the Solar Auxilia force you’re building. Personally, I’m a bit of a sucker for the Basilisk because I have many memories of those on the 40k side of things.
