‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ – More Than 1,500 Lines of Dialogue to Be Restored in Patch 2

One character is about to get a lot chattier with Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 2 poised to restore more than 1500 dialogue lines to a rare friend.

There are bugs, and then there are bugs. And according to Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke, currently, a “stupid bug” in Baldur’s Gate 3 is preventing something along the lines of more than 1,500 dialogue lines from triggering for a certain character. And if you’re wondering why you haven’t come across anything like this, because that certainly seems like something you’d notice in a game where everyone talks about stuff all the time—to the point where, if you go in and change the classes of the other Origin Characters, the voice lines change to match their new situation in life, no really it’s true, you should do this it’s great—you’d be right.

However. There’s one character whom very few players are partying up with. Minthara, the Drow Paladin who you encounter in Act 1, is a companion NPC the vast majority of you will never adventure with. Because she’s only accessible via a path that involves choosing the greater of two evils.

And as the Baldur’s Gate 3 devs have repeatedly said, players can’t help but try and be good. Being evil is hard. Real hard when your favorite NPCs start taking offense at what you’re doing.

Baldur’s Gate 3 – More Than 1,500 Dialogues Not Triggering Because of Stupid Bug

In a recent interview with IGN, Larian CEO Swen Vincke talked about the extent of some of the bugs:

“There were a couple of bugs that caused some of the companions to not react as they should. And so that felt like the content was not showing up. There’s about 1500 lines… that weren’t showing up as a result of a very, very stupid bug”

This is referring to the Drow Paladin, Minthara. Most players who have made it through Act 1 will be familiar with her. For the majority of the players (nearly 70% according to Larian’s initial numbers) take a route that places you in opposition.

Gaining the Paladin on your side requires one or more “evil choices”. Now, where her story goes once she’s in the party, is anyone’s guess. I haven’t had time to do the “yell at everyone and make bad choices” playthrough, so I couldn’t tell you. But like most NPCs, she is almost certainly bound to take an interest in PCs who strike her fancy. I mean, just look at her, there’s no way those neck tattoos don’t scream “romance option.”

But, for those 30-odd percent that have made the plunge, Minthara is about to be a more full and active companion.
