Warhammer 40K: Necrons Model Updates For 10th Edition
The Necrons are in a good spot with their model range but there’s still a handful of models that need a 10th edition glow-up.
With the Necrons coming in the Winter of 2023 we were wondering what Games Workshop is going to do with their release. Their range got a pretty recent facelift and a bunch of new kits and older ones got updated to great results. Overall, the range is looking solid — but there’s still a bunch of characters and old units that could use an update. With the new codex on the way it seems like a good time to update these models.
Necron Model Updates
I suppose the question is if you’d prefer a bunch of new units or if you’d like to have old units updated with new kits. The Necrons still have quite a few finecast resin miniatures in the range that need to be retired and updated to plastic. If I were running things then I’d start there.
Functionally, I don’t have any real issues with these characters designs in particular. They certainly aren’t bad — just a little dated. And some of these characters are real powerhouses in the lore. It’s all the more obvious when you take a look at how Illuminor Szeras got a really fantastic upgrade:
Don’t forget that Szeras was a relatively minor character in the older Necron books and lore — up until GW decided to give him an awesome glow-up. And there just happens to be 5 characters sitting right there waiting for the same treatment.
Taking a step up in the power department we also have the Nightbringer and Deceiver C’tan Shards. We got a great model for the Void Dragon that really shows how dated these two are relatively speaking.
We don’t need to reinvent the wheel here — but new plastic kits that updated both of these models seems like a good starting point, too.
The final batch of units I’d look at updating are the Destroyer models. They served their time well but after the Necron Warriors got updated these guys kind of stick now.

It might just be a pipe dream for now. The Necrons have one the larger ranges in 40k. More units would be nice as there is still room to grow. But again, I think with the new codex on the way going back to update some older kits is the perfect time to replace and update them. Plus it would be fewer models that still need to be finecast in the entire range. Removing those would be high on my list!
