It’s Dangerous To Go Alone, Take These Zelda Merch Deals!
With the announcement of the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, this is the perfect time to get caught up on everything Zelda!
By now, you may have heard there is a live-action Zelda movie on the horizon. Although I may be best known as your friendly neighborhood Sonic megafan, The Legend of Zelda is just as high on my list. I have my own thoughts and feelings about the Zelda movie, which isn’t what this post is about. Before we get into my own skeptical optimism, let’s check out some excellent Zelda merch you can check out prior to the movie.
I would never sell you anything that I haven’t used myself (that’s a lie, I have and will again in the future), so all of these products are things I already own and can vouch for.
Nintendo Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda
It’s important to know from whence you came, and the Legend of Zelda Game & Watch is a great way to experience the first three Zelda titles, assuming you don’t have big hands. As much as I do love this product, its biggest positive is also its biggest negative: it’s very small.
If you’re sporting bigger mitts, this one might not be for you. But if you can get over the tiny buttons, you’ll always have The Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, and Link’s Awakening in your pocket. I have this set up as a clock in my living room. It runs an animation of Link running through Zelda 1‘s overworld and dungeons and just looks great.
The Legend of Zelda – Legendary Edition Box Set
This manga box set retells the stories of Ocarina of Time, both Oracle games, Majora’s Mask, Link to the Past, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, and Four Swords. It’s a ton of content! And art is great, and the writing is top notch. There are dramatic moments, hilarious parts, and just overall engaging tales from start to finish. The chest itself plays the “item get” jingle when it opens, although mine is second-hand and broken.
The stories themselves explore the space a lot and diverge from the games in very interesting ways. For example, Volvagia gets a whole backstory in the Ocarina story, and Four Swords basically builds an entire new storyline. If you’re just wanting more stories set in Hyrule, this is a must get.
The Legend of Zelda: The Complete Season
I really don’t know what to say about the animated Legend of Zelda series. If you have seen it, there’s nothing more I can tell you that will or won’t convince you to get it on DVD. If you haven’t seen it, you don’t spend much time on the internet, do you?
This show is so wild and incredibly 90s in the best and worst ways. Not only is Link not the typical silent protagonist, but he’s smug, sarcastic, goofy, and kinda sexist, as was the style of the time. Still, for what it is, it is still fun to watch and laugh at, just maybe not in the way the creators intended.
The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia
If every game adaption movie that’s come out recently in any indication, the Legend of Zelda movie is going to be chock filled with subtle references that only fans will catch. Unless you’re willing to play through every Zelda game before the movie’s release, Hyrule Historia is the best way to catch up quick.
It’s filled with in and out of universe history and content, from never before seen concept art to the full official timeline. Even though it was already out of date by the time it got published. Every Zelda fan owes it to themselves to grab a copy, if for no other reason than how great it looks on your shelf.
