Did Anyone Have “Atari 2600 Updated For Modern TVs” On Their 2023 Bingo Card?
The Atari 2600+ has HDMI output and wide-screen capability. This is also your only chance to grab one of 31 highly limited edition, never-before-seen Atari titles!
Despite my love for retro games as a whole, I must admit the Atari brand was mostly before my time. I have vague memories of playing Missile Command at my cousin’s house, but it’s possible I’m just incepting myself. Still, even though I never got to experience the Atari 2600 in its heyday, I still appreciate what it brought to the gaming landscape.
Fast forward to today and rather than allow these games to fade into obscurity in some video game museum, Atari is releasing the Atari 2600+, an updated version of the Atari 2600, but with modern sensibilities.
Atari 2600 Updated For Modern TVs
The Atari 2600+ features double cartridge capability, with the ability to play both 2600 games and 7800 games. Additionally, it sports an HDMI output and a widescreen mode to play on any modern TV. Plus, other quality-of-life changes like an enlarged cart socket to reduce sticking and an illuminated Atari logo while the system is active.
Of course, the system also comes with a CX40+ joystick, lovingly recreated from the same specs as the original. And finally, the system package comes with a 10-in-1 cart featuring icon titles like Adventure, Combat, Dodge ‘Em, Haunted House, Maze Craze, Missile Command, RealSports Volleyball, Surround, Video Pinball, and Yars’ Revenge.
Adventure is often hailed as one of the most influential video games of all time, and you can play it now on official Atari hardware!
No Cartridge Left Behind
It wouldn’t make much sense to release a console without also releasing some additional games, right? Atari had the same thought and is releasing many additional carts, currently on pre-order. They are releasing limited editions of many iconic titles like Super Breakout and Centipede. My recommendation is the dungeon-crawling adventure game Dark Chambers.
Dark Chambers was also released under the title Dandy, as a play on the pronunciation of D&D, and directly inspired the Gauntlet series of games. The inspiration is obvious immediately upon booting up the game.
This is your opportunity to preserve gaming history in your own home. Atari is offering multiple sets of games, including several never-before-seen unreleased titles. These sets are highly limited, noting they will only release 31 units worldwide!
Grab them now before they are gone forever!
