Warhammer 40K: Kill Team New Season Rules Add Hazards And Spills
The next Kill Team boxed set is bringing in some new ways to play. Just watch out for those new hazards and spills.
Kill Team: Salvation is taking things to the next level in Kill Team. No, really: there’s new platforms and levels to traverse. Get ready to balance on those walkways above treacherous terrain. You do NOT want to go swimming in the warp-tainted seas below.
“The large Hazardous Area in the centre of the double-sided game board is a key feature of Killzone: Bheta-Decima. As the name would suggest, this zone is treacherous terrain for everyone – nobody is allowed to set foot in the foreboding, warp-tainted seas. You’ll need to use raised walkways to traverse the centre of the killzone, and dash, jump, or fly between them.”
There’s an additional note that units can’t be shoved down there either — that includes by a Dôzr. Anyhow, these new rules add some extra cover and movement challenges in Kill Team. Let’s take a closer look.
Kill Team Hazards All Around
There’s two big things to take away from these Hazardous Areas. The first we already mentioned — you can’t enter the ocean. It’s effectively impassible. In addition, it also restricts the Line of Sight across it. This is due to toxic waves, mist, and just an overall obscuring layer from the ocean.
That said, it’s not impossible to shoot over the Hazardous Area. Your ranges are just a lot closer.
It’s interesting that the ganties can also provide cover if the LoS crosses into and out of the footprint of gantry. This is really going to make lining up your longer range weapons a little trickier.
From the sound of things this board setup could really favor fast moving melee fighters. So if your Kill Team is packing the close quarters gear they should be in for a treat. Then again, this could also make something like a flamer pretty effect for these shorter ranges, too. It might look “open” but the board is a lot tighter than the first glance might show.
More Campaign Options Ahead
This season also introduces a new map to fight over. What’s really neat about this is that it works with a regular Spec Ops narrative campaign. It just adds a territory component to the games as well.
“As your kill teams move across the map to claim Intel, they’ll also have to contend with the many random hazards flaring up across this doomed and dying world. A campaign is just a fancy colouring-in exercise without its missions, however, and Salvation comes with nine new Critical Operations that take full advantage of the Bheta-Decima terrain to inject verticality and movement options into your games.”
Below we have an example mission layout and it uses the terrain in the box to construct the platforms you’re fighting over:
This new season brings in a few new twists and challenges and looks like a lot of fun to play with a dedicated group. Sound off in the comments if you’re going to play through this narrative campaign with your friends.
