It’s the time in the city when the guilds go back to war! Check out these Ravnica previews from Weekly MTG!

Welcome in, Praetors and Planeswalkers! 2023 may be drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean we’re done with the excitement! The first set of 2024 is a return to the fan-favorite plane of Ravnica, the City of Guilds. Ahead of the grisly murders and plucky sleuths of Murders at Karlov Manor, we get a look back at the city with Ravnica: Remastered. Like Dominaria Remastered earlier this year, this set will gather powerful cards from all the visits to the plane, from the OG set to Bolas’s attempted takeover. Fans of the plane will be delighted to see some of their favorite heroes and power cards reimagined and reprinted. Some are even shifting legality thanks to rarity change!

A Better Draft Experience

One of the best parts about the new set is the improvements to drafting. Ravnica was famous for its “shock” lands, and this set has increased your chances to grab one, even in draft. Rather than the usual land slot in the draft booster, you’ll have a “mana” slot. That COULD be a standard basic land, but it could also be a gate, a signet, one of the shock lands, or even a Chromatic Lantern! With all the two-color Guild cards, you’ll want all the mana you can get, and this ensures you’ll always have what you need.

Anime/Retro Reprints

Several cards from the set are getting a retro-style reprint, evoking the old feel of the original cards. First appearing in Modern Horizons 2, this treatment is a throwback to Magic’s original style of printing and is a love letter to players who have been with the game for years. On the more modern side, some heroes and powerful staples will have a manga-style reprint, like the Massacre Girl above. This will give your favorite cards a more dynamic feel, and many of the cards deserve it. Teysa and Niv-Mizzet are particularly good.

Collector Exclusives

While the primary idea for the set is to create a healthy draft experience for fans of Ravnica, some of the cards just don’t function well in Limited. However, these cards are still popular with Modern, Legacy, and Commander players, so they will be released in a beautiful retro style in Collector Boosters. This is, of course, for gamers who want to add a little extra flair to their deck. While you aren’t missing anything sticking to the Draft packs, if you feel like digging for that extra heat, a few Collector Boosters won’t let you down.
