Horus Heresy: ‘The Great Slaughter’ – First Supplement For Legions Imperialis Brings The Titandeath
Games Workshop has announced the first supplement for Legions Imperialis with The Great Slaughter. Titans are going to be dying.
Legions Imperialis is all about big battles on a small scale. But something has been missing. That thing has been an option to play Titan-only battles. Well good news everyone: Titandeath is coming to town with the upcoming The Great Slaughter.
“The most seismic additions come with the new Titandeath game mode, which hurls entire maniples of Titans and Knights at each other in epic, city-levelling clashes. Players muster mighty 6,000-point forces from the Legion Support and Knight Household detachments in the Legions Imperialis Rulebook, meaning anything smaller than an Armiger has no place in Titandeath battles.”

That’s right folks, it’s time to bust out the Titans and march to war once again. These 6000 point games have restrictions on what you can bring along with some other mode modifications to enhance Titan vs Titan action. Really thought this is the perfect way to bring your Titans and Knights from Adeptus Titanicus into Legions Imperialis and have a big robot stompfest in Epic proportions.
Campaign Modes Added
While Beta-Garmon is the most well known campaign for these Titandeath style scenarios you’ll also be able to use the rules in this book for more than just Titan-smashing. In fact, in terms of scenarios, you’ll be able to expand your horizons with rules for long-running narratives in a campaign system. There’s also new Warfront campaigns that allow for multiple participants to duke it out over “six cycles of battle” to see who can win. Additionally, there’s also the more traditional Conquest Campaigns that will form a map for players to fight over.
More For Everyone
On top of all the Titandeath and campaigns there’s also a slew of new rules for both Loyalists and Traitors to use. Expect to see new Formations and Detachments added to the game with The Great Slaughter. Two that were mentioned are a new Vanguard Detachment and a new Drop Pod Assault Formation.
This new supplement sounds like just the thing that Legions Imperialis needs for now. Folks may still be assembling their Legions but may have some Titans they can stomp around with in the meantime. Also, the Campaign options are great for groups to participate in and might be a great “slow-grow” league option. We’ll have to wait to see how the rules pan out but the additions do sound promising.
Honestly, the biggest issue I’m having with Legions Imperialis is finding the kits in stores locally. And even the Astartes kits are sold out directly from GW. I guess that’s why this Titandeath mode is a good stop-gap…for now.
